Congrats!
I had no notion of retiring from my engineering career – until suddenly the urge hit. I had my financial ducks lined up.
I waited a few weeks to be sure it was the right decision, then told my boss that his service was no longer needed. First time it had gone in that direction.

k5blazerCongratulations! I retired two years ago on this very date. I should have done it sooner like in my twenties. So nice not to be involved in all the bs and tyrannical hierarchy. Enjoy it cause you earned it. Have a great time!

I told my ex-employer I'd answer questions and the like for a while after I retired. Log in remotely and fix stuff if my replacements got into a bind, if necessary. After a year of that happening several times, they called me one morning in a panic. Told 'em "I can fix it, but the free ride is over. This will be chargeable at $rate. I estimate X hours. Payment terms are net 30. 10% discount if paid w/in ten days."
They called me back and said "Never mind." Never got another call after that

gearhoundsCongrats! 1.5 years to go for me with 32 years in federal service when I go. I HATE that I’ll be getting out under such a criminal administration. I could go now, but I’m thinking I’ll need every penny I can get in the bank. The country is in for some hard times in the near future.

smlsigI retired last year after 37 years and even though it was in a different occupation than you I can commiserate with not having to deal with all the BS anymore!
I think my blood pressure dropped 25 points the day after!
