We will be entering our Rotty in her first show during the weekend of October 21. Looking to see if anyone is familiar with a place to stay in that area and more importantly, where to stay away from. Airbnb is our first choice.

I don't have any specific recommendations, but as a frequent Airbnb guest, I won't consider staying anywhere without reviews unless the owner is a well-established Superhost and reviews for his other properties are outstanding.

Even so, I try to stay at properties listed by Superhosts with multiple informative reviews. I've never had trouble following that guideline.

You are closer to the Portage Lakes area than Akron so I would start there.
My recommendation would be not to go to Akron personally. Hate to say it but it's a shithole. Absolutely stay away from the Arlington Road area.

Norton/Barberton are relatively close to where you want to be and better area than Akron.

It's an hour from where I live so I can't really recommend any hotels/motels as I've never spent overnight there but I'm sure there's some outside of Akron.
