My letter to Portland's spineless mayor...
Mayor Wheeler-

I read your comments regarding federal agents causing the uptick of trouble in Portland. Your comments are disgusting and appalling. You and mayors before you have kowtowed to extreme leftist radicals for so long they expect to be able to riot and destroy this city without consequence and then cry when someone holds them accountable. Blaming Federal and Portland police officers is akin to the battered wife that blames herself when her husband beats her.

I used to love going to Portland for the restaurants and it’s quirky persona. Because of how you and mayors before you, and your allowance of lawlessness, crime, refusal to punish rioters and allowance of businesses to be repeatedly ransacked, I avoid coming to Portland at all costs (I live in one of the surrounding cities). Last week I was returning from eastern Washington and for the safety of my family, we chose to add 30 minutes to our return trip and go around Portland instead of through it.

The state of a city reflects its leadership. The state of Portland, OR indicates that it’s had no leadership but rather left-wing radical appealers. I implore you to find some intestinal fortitude and restore law and order to this once fun and pleasant city. Support the Portland Police Bureau and federal police that are the last line of defense before the city succumbs to complete anarchy, lawlessness and violence like never seen here before. Without them, we will see murder rates like we’ve never seen before.

Tony B.

I expect it to fall on deaf ears, but at least I did my part to let him know that there are sensible people that need to be heard.

Tony.

Looks like the Feds are going to clean up Portland despite the broken city government objecting.

Well said and, you're right, it will fall on deaf ears.

My wife and I used to enjoy trips to both Portland and Seattle for a few days to indulge in the food and night life the cities offered. Never again!!

Jim

Portland Mayors. I thought it was a step up they elected someone who is not a child rapist (Goldschmidt) or someone who groomed the underage interns for sex once they hit 18 (Adams).

Bunch of losers all of them.

I'd expect to be targeted if they can identify you. They won't go toe to toe but do some cowardly aggression. I got my tire popped after the 4th, not 100% sure but my gut tells me it was the high school/ college aged girls who passed my house and I told, "Happy 4th" looking like a walking American Flag which I do to everyone on the 4th. They glared at me like I had just forced them to work an 8 hour job. Big Grin Big Grin

Oregon is the front line in my view. I see the people in Southern Oregon and they won't stand for any of it, myself included. Luckily, Oregon is so broke they couldn't enforce any laws in the south if they wanted to and the Sheriffs will have no part in nonsense.

But that letter is dead on and I'd like to see every citizen in this country write one similiar.

Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Chad Wolf has rejected calls for federal authorities responding to protests in Portland, Oregon to "go home," saying his department will not "abdicate" its mission to help bring order to the city.

On Thursday, Wolf met with federal law enforcement officials in Portland, where officers from several DHS agencies, including the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection agencies, have been tasked with responding to ongoing protests in the wake of George Floyd's death.

The DHS chief sought to rally support for the department's mission in the city, despite resounding calls from protesters and city and state officials for federal agents to leave Portland.

Wolf said he had called Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and Oregon Gov. Kate Brown to offer "DHS support to help them locally address the situation that's going on in Portland."

"Their only response was, 'Please pack up and go home,'" the DHS chief said.

Indeed, in a tweet on Wednesday, Wheeler made clear that he did not want federal officers in his city, noting that he told Wolf that his "biggest immediate concern is the violence federal officers brought to our streets in recent days, and the life-threatening tactics his agents use."

"We do not need or want their help," Wheeler said.

"The best thing they can do is stay inside their building, or leave Portland altogether," he said in a second tweet.

The problem that you have is that Wheeler is on the side of the rioters. That's why he's doing such a minimal law enforcement response.

That is an excellent letter that unfortunately, will fall on deaf ears. Things like this will only have a chance of succeeding if he is literally swamped with letters that let it be known that decent citizens will no longer tolerate this behavior and then voice that loud and clear at the ballot box.

So many people here are clueless. I had a long, but polite, debate with a co-worker the other day. We agreed to disagree but he was clearly misinformed and drinks the cool-aid. He asked me if I had been to a protest and I simply said "Why the hell would I do that?!"

He apparently had been to one of the protests but during the day. He agreed that rioting is wrong. We discussed the mayor's ban on tear gas and his reply was "The Geneva Convention prohibits gassing but we gas our own citizens!" I informed him that the Geneva Convention sets rules for international warfare and it's absurd to compare tear gas which is an irritant that causes crowd dispersion to a lethal gas that causes mass death. He said Trump has wrecked the country for the last three years. I told him to tell me how, and he couldn't name one thing.

They walk among us...

^^^ yup, I have co-workers who are the same way. Always complaining about "Those Republicans"

recall last spring when the Oregon legislature stopped because republicans walked out and they didn't have a quorum to vote on climate, mandatory vaccine, and anti-gun measures.... There was a coordinated effort to send the message "The R's are not doing their jobs" But what they fail to mention is the D's did a walkout not that many years ago.

So yes, I've seen it. Crazy.

that said, I've met several of the people on the Oregon legislature. Both Senate and House. I've never, ever met a dumber group of people in my life. Crazy dumb.

But I was told by my state rep that all legislation these days in the state is going to be based on emotion rather than facts. He said all the pro-gun facts in the world won't help stop gun legislation because there's so much emotion around the issue. I thought this was sad but probably accurate.

Back to the Mayor's office... And we thought Bud Clark was bad. He's nothing compared to the present occupant.

I have a feeling that while some in the city itself may be somewhat supportive of that idiot, the rest of the state is none too happy about it. Same for WA state.

The politicians will have a very active future..

How much damage do left wing policies have to inflict before they change their policies?

Businesses and the tax base destroyed, mayhem and crime out of control, and a once beautiful area trashed with graffiti and destruction. Then the left doubles down on their insane positions.

The voters who keep them in control must love living this way or the politicians would be voted out. It is very sad that some areas of America are being destroyed with the support of a majority of the people that live there.

I can not understand it.Normal people want to live in a world that is safe, clean, orderly and prosperous. They want a better, brighter future for themselves and their children.

Wheeler needs to be charged and prosecuted as an accomplice to all the injuries that have been inflicted on both the police and bystanders. When you're in charge and you opt to sit the sidelines while people are getting hurt, you need to pay a price.

Seeing as how he’s blaming the federal agents brought in to help for increasing the violence, I don’t think anything is going to change his tune.

And if you haven’t seen the CBP snatch and grab video it’s pretty hilarious. When the “resistance” consists of a (probably) white woman telling agents to “use their words” as they proceed to silently grab an unsuspecting rioter you can’t help but laugh at the stupidity.
