https://www.breitbart.com/poli...-americas-elections/ Democrats passed legislation Tuesday that would federalize America’s electoral system, giving President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) significant control over election law. The House passed H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021. The bill passed 219-212, with Democrats strongly in favor of the bill and Republicans largely against the bill. Democrats named the bill after the late Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), a prominent civil rights activist. The legislation would radically transform America’s electoral system. The legislation would mandate that any state and its political subdivisions would have to obtain preclearance from the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia before making changes that might affect voting rights. A state and its political subdivision would be subject to preclearance for a ten-year period if: 15 or more voting rights violations occurred in the state during the previous 25 years; 10 or more violations occurred during the previous 25 years, at least one of which was committed by the state itself; or Three or more violations occurred during the previous 25 years, and the state administers the elections. A political subdivision as a separate unit shall also be subject to preclearance for a 10-year period if three or more voting rights violations occurred there during the previous 25 years. States must also notify the public of changes to voting practices. The legislation would also mandate that courts must consider the history of voting discrimination in the state or political subdivision. But these triggering events need not be bona fide violations of voting rights. As a practical matter, if leftwing groups were to file lawsuits against Democrat-controlled cities for ordinary election integrity safeguards and the city were to admit fault and settle instead of fight it in court, that surrender would count toward the tally triggering preclearance requirements for the entire state. House Republicans railed against the legislation: Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said that the legislation should not fool Americans: Congressman Byron Donalds @RepDonaldsPress · 6h HR. 4 is HR. 1 (2.0), don't be fooled. ‼️ Cancels common-sense voter ID requirements ‼️ Blocks states from updating voter rolls ‼️ Allows for electioneering ‼️ Federalizes America's elections ‼️ Gives the DOJ power to veto state election law HR. 4 isn't for the people. Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) said, “H.R. 4 gives the Biden DOJ authority to designate a voter ID law as a voting rights violation or as evidence of voting discrimination. H.R. 4 is an unconstitutional way for the federal government to dictate elections and a way to weaken the vote of the American people!” “#HR4 is nothing more than another Pelosi power play to federalize our elections. This unconstitutional attack hampers states’ ability to conduct free and fair elections, eliminates commonsense voter ID requirements, and gives DC bureaucrats veto authority. I’m voting NO,” Rep. Drew Ferguson (R-GA), the Republican chief deputy whip, said. _________________________ "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." We need the convention of states to stop this grab of power. Too bad it's taking so long to try and get this accomplished. Maybe someday, hopefully soon. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." FBLM LGB!

Steal an election in 2020 and legalize that theft in 2021. Whether this passes or doesn't, I'd be curious if the legal beagles on this site think it would pass a constitutional challenge. I thought election responsibilities rested with the states. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. We really need all the Republicans and a couple of Democrats in the Senate to deny passage of that atrocious Bill. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

It would be unconstitutional. And would never pass the Senate. More akin to a bunch of cross-dressers on Halloween running around the house banging pot and pans together, giggling, eyes strabismus, lathering, etc etc etc ...

Not 2/3rds required for passage? The Elections Clause giving Congress authority to “make or alter” state regulations? https://constitutioncenter.org...rticle-i/clauses/750

So the house puts John Lewis name on it as a feel good measure & you’re probably a racist if you don’t vote for it? How pithy. The Senate will not reach a compromise on this & it will not advance to become law. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

How exactly? This thread is frankly just like the “House passes Gun control measures that bans blah blah blah”. It’s going no where. They would be just as productive to vote to impeach President Trump again.

I am being hypothetical. I get the process. I am simply making a point that we should never assume anything - look what's happening with Circuit Court confirmations and Lindsey Graham. Republican Senators are 4-Sale just like their Democratic counterparts.

https://www.dailykos.com/stori...uking-the-filibuster David Nir Wednesday February 10, 2021 · 7:29 PM EST "Astute politics observers well know that the Senate filibuster—the Jim Crow relic that requires supermajority support to pass most legislation—is a major obstacle for any hopes that Democrats have of enacting Joe Biden’s agenda and righting the country after four years of wicked misrule. But because a handful of Democratic senators (as well as all Republicans) oppose curtailing the rule—for now, at least—party leaders are pursuing an alternative route that will allow them to bypass the filibuster and pass major bills with just a simple majority. It’s called reconciliation, and it’s a complicated beast. If you’ve heard about it, you may have read that it can only be used in a limited fashion. But that’s simply not so. Democrats can actually use the reconciliation process for almost anything, including an increase to the minimum wage, a current topic of contention. What’s more, in contrast with filibuster reform, they don’t need unanimity from their caucus to proceed. A mere 41 votes will do the trick." ____________________

My House Representative, Dem Collin Alred, sent me an e-mail today touting his vote to pass that horrible Bill. I sent the following response back to him:
I don't think it will make a mark, but it felt good. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

disagree such convention is far more likely to have disastrous results due to backroom tricks such as demonstrated in the recent presidential election. Grant Stinchfield had a report last night that the dims have introduced a bill to not allow unvaccinated people to fly - by putting them on the No-Fly List ! It's a backdoor gun control scheme because if you're on the No-Fly List you can't possess guns. Those POS's will stop at nothing to destroy this country. You know politics too well. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
