As stated above, furniture is hard to come by right now. Quoted 6 month wait times on dining room furniture.

P250UA5Provided they have a tow vehicle, the buy a trailer & sell it after isn't a bad option.

armedprofThe profits from selling everything added to the $3k in savings from renting the truck + the $500 on Gas = a whole house full of Ikea furniture... Not that Ikea is the best, but it is an option.
When I moved to Charlotte, NC from Columbus, OH in 2005, I sold as much as I could at a "Moving Sale". Garnered almost $4k in cash and got rid of a lot of stuff I was not in love with or would not need in NC. You can do a lot with the proceeds depending on your needs.
Good luck with the move. I hope all goes well.

sourdough44Anyone try to sell used furniture lately? You’ll be lucky to get 25% of the price paid.
A relative was recently talking about a supposedly $6k piece of furniture, ended up grousing when the 2nd hand store offered $400.
Yes, it all depends on particulars, certain items, nobody wants.

SportshooterThis is for anyone packing to move.
Buy clean boxes, use clear strong packing tape and assign numbers to boxes as you fill them starting with a single number for each room.
The master bedroom could be number 1 and the first filled box would be 1-1, the second 1-2 and so on until the room is packed up. Keep a list of what went into each box so you won’t be wondering where something is. Mark each box on 4 sides on the upper left or right corner with the assigned number in bold sharpie not more than 2” tall. You’ll be able to read the numbers from across the room even if the boxes are stacked. You’ll know which room each box should go in and have a general list of what is in the box.
When you are done and the boxes are neatly broken down, you will be able to sell them as “clean, used once moving boxes” on Craig’s list or wherever. This way, you are basically renting clean boxes instead of using whatever you can get from a friendly store.
Does this work? Ask my nephew; he owned a moving business for 20 years. This was one of the ways he’d save a customer a little money. YMMV

LOL - it is pretty funny how often folks reply in threads and don’t bother to at least read the full OP.

YooperSigsFurniture shortage noted, but +++ for the moving sale. I sold off a lot of stuff and it helped pay for the truck rental. My goal was one load in a midsized truck. I even drilled holes the bed of the truck so I could install tie-downs for my motorcycle. I just puttied up the holes before I turned in the truck.

WoodmanA 6' x 12' U-Haul trailer pulled by a pickup truck. Everything else gets tossed / donated. Out with the old, in with the new.

sourdough44When I drove to Salt Lake, towing a trailer, the stuff inside wasn’t worth the trip. The gist was helping move then putting stuff in position, etc..
I knew that starting out, I embraced the adventure part of the trip.

What's even funnier is that there are at least 3 different PODS type moving services that do go there. Here's one of them:
https://www.upack.com/moving-quotes/quoteviewIt's funny that people make remarks without checking out that possibility. PODS is pretty much used as a generic term for container type moving among everyone I know.
Have a nice day.
