Recurring dreams... what the heck, man?
Reading this thread last night must have triggered something because I had a very long and elaborate dream that I woke up remember large parts of this morning:

It's current day and I was invited to and went to a large, lavish school reunion/homecoming type event at The Culinary Institute of America in NY. They gave us all these fancy embroidered and decorated alumni chef jackets to wear and I wore mine with dress pants and dress shirt/tie underneath.

We were wined and dined and it was a very nice event but I was really distressed and perplexed that not a single classmate from my graduating class bothered to show up, everyone there was a stranger to me. Confused

The night before a trip I frequently dream that I have gotten through TSA and am in the secure area when I discover I am carrying a fully loaded pistol and spare magazine. Then I start trying to figure out how to get rid of it. Weird.

My final semester of senior year in college was one of the most stressful times in my life.

For a few years after graduating I had recurring dreams of failing something or forgetting a project and not being able to graduate.

I did have a situation where I had to argue my case before the dean to graduate on time. I had to make my case without the support of professors from my major who were actually counter productive so yeah that sucked but I won.

It might be a way the brain/mind/subconscious struggles with processing stressful situations. Thankfully mine went away.

This is incredibly common. A quick search will bear that out, as did the question about this theme when I was in a room with about 25 CPAs and the leader asked if anyone had similar. a solid 75%+ raised their hands.

And the others lied.

I had a dream just like that. It was New Year's Eve, 1961 going into 1962. My roommate and I, along with our dates, were returning to our apartment in Brooklyn, NY, after seeing a play on Broadway; the plan was for a late dinner.

As we approached the apartment, I saw one set of footprints in the fresh snow. Entering the apartment house, I noticed that the hall light was out. Then, a female voice said, "So this is your new girlfriend!" My roommate, who had gone through college on a football scholarship, barreled through, knocking me aside, and taking the large kitchen knife from my ex-girlfriend. Police were called, a lot of excitement.

Oh, wait ... that this thread is about dreams. My story actually happened.

Was talking about this with my son the other day. He has one about some Minecraft character or block or something that keeps terrorizing him. I tell him that's just too much Minecraft and the answer to that is less of it, which he disagreed with, of course. Roll Eyes Big Grin

I told him about some of mine.

Since I was a little kid, I've had dreams about wolves. They are never my friend, they are always a threat. They menaced me until I was about sixteen or seventeen, and started wrestling in highschool, and doing well at it. Around that time, my father had some notion of becoming a berry farmer, so all this one summer, I worked a field with a shovel, pickaxe, and a railroad pry bar, digging stones out of the field that the frost kept heaving up. I'd load up the hood of an old Chevy we got from a junk yard and would use it as a stone boat and drag it out with a still old, but less old Allis-Chalmers. It was hard work.

One night, I had a dream I was out there in the field, working alone like I did every day that summer, and a lone wolf came for me. I spotted him a ways off and was out in the middle of the field with nowhere to go. There wasn't even a tractor to climb onto. The wolf charged, and I picked up the shovel. As it closed, I whipped the shovel in as wide an arc as I could and whanged that fucker over the head with all my might. He dropped and skidded to a stop at my feet, and I set about chopping at his neck with the shovel blade until I worked the last of his spine loose.

No dreams about wolves for years after that. The ones that have occurred since have been a wolf at the door. Depending on where I lived, I could watch him through the windows or the peephole, looking for a way in, waiting for me to come out. In a couple of those dreams, I had my various guns, but no ammo for them.

My interpretation is the wolves are lack of confidence in my abilities to fight and defend myself and my family as a man. When I'm actively improving myself to that end, the wolves stay away. When I'm not, or when I get complacent, or when I haven't been shooting or training, or keeping enough ammo on hand, the wolves come back and show me what I should be afraid of. If my dreams were the OP's dreams, I'd be wondering what I did to my ex that she might still be angry about, and what I could do as an amends. Not for her sake, but for mine. Sending the photos of her grandparents might be a good first step.

I've recently found some pics of her and her grandparents. I need to get those boxed and delivered. Thank you for the reminder.
