2.5” of rain in 30 minutes… flooding at work Login/Join

So yesterday certainly had its share of challenges. We had some rain yesterday. It dropped about 2.5” in 30 minutes. It was a pretty amazing downpour. I had to cross the parking lot as my team in the other building was calling about the flooding. Hail is no joke. I had never been hit with hail the size of a nickel. It hurts like hell.
The wash in the video is about 5’ deep. Topped its banks pretty quickly and flooded the dirt parking lot. Until yesterday, that was a nice lit that was pretty smooth with ABC gravel. Most of the gravel has washed onto our adjoining property.
There was about an inch of water in the back of the warehouse. It came in all around the doors. Under the door, and through the door jambs. There was leaking somewhere in one of the storage areas, we will be assessing where what breach is today. Going in early to clear stuff out and assess the damages. Awnings are shredded from the hail.

Should make for an interesting day today.

I have a friend that lives in southern Utah,
he works/lives on a large tract of land, monitoring and maintaining wells (solar powered water) for the livestock,

his access road will get washed out a few times a year from the pop up storms in the area,

here on the east coast, we had a hail storm in a very localized area (that I happen to live in) that had Palm sized hail fall,
ended up with a new roof, new siding, and repairs to 2 vehicles from it,

last big micro cell that came thru this area dumped 10 inches or so in a short time, in a small area,
flooded and trashed parts of a water treatment plant, flooded most of the roads (as in water over the bridges) that were downstream, as well as flooded and washed out a couple roads crossing local creeks,

mother nature shows her power now and again

Update: I see she was found, not alive Frown Prayers for her family and friends.

Looks like the area around my mom's house (N of Vegas) when they get heavy rain. The last 1/4 mile or so of their road is dirt, so it can wash out pretty badly with heavy rain.

I hope you have flood insurance.

We live in the desert in west Texas, and have it for the reason you’ve just experienced. It’s amazing how much monetary loss can result from 6” of water in a house or business.

I have been seeing the flood warnings for up north. This has been a long and productive monsoon season so far. It appears that the stalled low pressure is finally going to move off to the east.

The Valley got hit hard a couple of times. So far, we have been spared the worst, the heaviest fall being 1.5" in about an hour. It caused our washes to run heavily, briefly.

Dang, that is some ugly flooding. Our local news guy always harps on the fact that flooding kills more people than any other natural disaster. What a crap way to go.

On a side note, y'all gonna have a special on smoked sweet paprika?? Big Grin

It's been a crazy year of weather this year for all of us in general I think.

In PA it was cold as hell up to June then it got hot as hell and that hasn't let up. We had a year without a spring, it basically went from winter to summer.

Been bone dry for months (my poor grass!) but when it DOES rain, it's like we get a month's worth all at once like 2-3 inches.

Not sure what is going on but none of this appears to be normal. Confused

We got lot's of rain in Tucson the past few days. Of course, the TV weather bubble heads blame "Climate Change" as the reason.

Someone in Jerome took a photo of the storm when it was letting loose in Cottonwood. It’s a pretty awesome photo.

Fortunately for us, the drainage around here is pretty great. The washes run heavy, and sometimes spill into the streets, but nothing seems to get really flooded, for the most part. A bunch of the mini storages that were BUILT IN THE WASH were flooded, but for fucks sake, they built the building in the wash. Not sure what they expected.
