Me and another guy from work will be leaving for Richmond on Monday. We are going to Washington DC on Tuesday.

I thought I would reach out if anyone in the Sigforum braintrust had any recommendations for any must see or do while we are there. We are coming home on Friday.

Thanks in advance!

Well,

I would suggest a nice stroll or drive down Monument Ave,,

but our Thug Mayor ruined that,

we do have

The Museum of Fine Arts, and the Museum of History and Culture ,

not been to either since the town went woke,

lots of CW and Rev War stuff around the area (Battlefields, St Johns Church, etc)

very good local breweries in town, dinner on the deck, weather permitting, at Legends is a nice view,

a stroll thru Hollywood Cemetary would be good as well

If you're driving there don't drive over the speed limit, even like 1-2 miles. The cops in VA LOVE out of staters like you and hand out speeding tickets like candy for going 1 mph over.

It's literally the only state I drive EXACTLY the speed limit in.

If you like pizza, try Bottoms Up at 1700 Dock St, Richmond VA 23223 / www.bottomsuppizza.com

We had the best pizza we've ever eaten and it was the Remocaldo Renegade (broccoli, spinach, artichoke hearts, and fresh crab meat).

the place looks like a "dive" and I listened to my wife and ordered the RR pizza not expecting much. It was outstanding!

You might want to visit Carytown; interesting shops and plenty of places to eat. Watch where you go, especially after dark. I've started think of Richmond as Baltimore Lite. Frown

Agreed. Ask my daughter what happens if you are going 80 in a 70 zone.

Her ticket about 3 years ago counted as reckless driving, up to $1000 fine and 1 year in jail.

Attorney argued it down and she had to do 40 hours of community service, driving class, and we paid out about $1000 in costs for the ticket and attorney.

Also radar detectors are illegal.

gotta love Mayor Stoney,

Carytown is a stretch a few blocks long, not sure what it left post cooties but the college/hipster crowd and trendy rich are both popular in that area,

Scotts Addition (near the ball park) has great beer,

Buzz and Ned's in that area for BBQ, best in town,

if you are a foodie,

Heritage
Rossevelt
Laura Lee's
23rd and Main
Millies
Can Can
Tarrants

and maybe 3-4 dozen foodie joints in town,

Well this is a gun forum, so of course I need to recommend visiting one of our local gun stores. Check out Green Top. It’s just north of Richmond between Richmond and Ashland.

I will second Green Top.

Also Not too far from there as long as you're in the county, head over to the Town of Hanover and visit the Hanover Court House (built somewhere around 1735). It's the place that Patrick Henry argued the Parsons Cause Case in 1763. Some credit as the first shot of the American Revolution. It is also still an Active Courthouse.

Depending on when you are in the area, On Saturday, August 28, 2021, The Parsons' Cause Foundation will present two reenactments of The Parsons' Cause Trial at the Historic Hanover Courthouse. The reenactments will be presented at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. The reenactments are presented in conjunction with Hanover County's tricentennial celebration being held that same day.

My daughter is starting her senior year in fine arts at VA Commonwealth U. in Richmond. The campus itself is pretty decent (read safe), but lock your car and stay out of dicy neighborhoods. The Tredegar Iron Works Civil War museum is small but nice, and right by the James River and scenice footpath over the river. I still want to go to Hollywood Cemetery, and there are plenty of great places to eat.

I've not yet been, but Perly's Jewish Deli in Richmond is supposed to be amazing. I need to get there. Hope you beat me to it...

Thanks, everyone. Love pizza and appreciate the gun shop heads up.

Hopefully, we can check out a few of these places!

We’ll try not to speed. We’ll be in an unmarked van with LE official plates.

I lived in the Richmond metro area for 16 years and it is killing me to watch what is happening to it. I always thought I would go back and retire there but......

I am not sure where you are staying so I will give you some ideas/recommendations.

Sight seeing-->
The museums are pretty good, and they are renovating the History Museum but they have opened a portion of it.

The Confederate Chapel is a really neat place to tour along with the grounds. If you look at the diorama in the Church you can see the layout of the Old Soldiers Home (The Confederate Veterans Home was constructed on a 36-acre tract of farmland called The Grove, bound by Boulevard, Grove Ave, Sheppard, and ...)

If you have time another neat place to see is the Hollywood Cemetery.

I am not sure what your tastes are but:
When we are in town for a quick lunch or a light dinner I love hitting Chicken Fiesta.

For a greasy spoon: McLeans Restaurant (since 1965)

The Museum district and Cary town has a ton of restaurants from greasy spoon to tuxedo.

Another hint of advice is to allow significant time for travel when for your drive to DC. I worked the Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg are for a few years, then right before we relocated to NC I went to work for a small dept near Quantico Marine Base.

I would leave at 445 to get there by 7, and half the time I would still be late.

Plus you can guarantee there will be a fatality or a major pile up. Happens almost everyday, including weekends. Plus, The trip home is just as bad.

I walked foot patrol in downtown Richmond and the VCU area at my first Dept. All I can say is lock your doors and that was back in the early 2000s and it has just gotten worse.

I am not sure what route you are taking, but when I left Greenwood, IN, about 3 months ago, I took 29S to 64 East all the way through KY and WV.

If you are taking 64, be prepared for construction, construction and more construction. Especially once you hit WV. I have traveled that route for 17years+ and have never seen it like this.
