I thought I read something very small about this on another thread recently. Did a quick search, not much came up.

In a nutshell, Officer Amy Caprio, a Baltimore County Police Officer responded to a home burglary. When she arrived, she exited her vehicle, and the suspect gunned the engine, aimed for her, and opened the door striking her. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The suspect is a 16 y/o, who was on house arrest at the time. Three other juveniles were arrested, and they all face murder charges.

I'm trying to be PC. A non-African American female cop is killed by a non-Caucasion juvenile, and the world is silent. I'm not sure of the ethnicity of the accomplices.

Why isn't Baltimore burning??? This is clearly police brutality, of a different kind.

Four teenagers indicted in death of Baltimore County police officer Amy Caprio

Baltimore County grand jurors this week have indicted the four Baltimore teenagers accused in the death of county police Officer Amy Caprio.
Dawnta Harris, 16, Darrell Jaymar Ward, 15, Derrick Eugene Matthews, 16, and Eugene Robert Genius IV, 17, each face charges of first-degree murder, burglary and other violations in the indictments made public Wednesday. The murder charge alone carries a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Harris is accused of running Caprio over with a stolen Jeep on May 21 while police say Ward, Matthews and Genius were robbing a nearby home. Caprio, 29, died at an area hospital a short time later.

The indictments move the case from district court, where charges were filed against the teens, to circuit court, which generally handles more serious criminal cases.

Prosecutors allege in the indictments that on the day the officer was killed, the teens went to three houses in the Perry Hall and Parkville areas, broke into two and took items from all three, including a Heckler & Koch 9mm handgun, two 15-round magazines, an Xbox, a box of dishes, and some Cool Ranch Doritos and Cheetos.

Prosecutors say the teens broke into a house on Linwen Way, took the gun, the ammunition, an Apple watch, an HP laptop, the Xbox, Alexa speakers and two backpacks at a total value of about $3,000.
Police say Ward, Matthews and Genius went into the home and took the items while Harris waited in the Jeep.
Prosecutors say the teens went to a home in the 9600 block of Northwind Road and took a Kindle Fire, three bottles of alcohol, a brass candlestick holder, Doritos and Cheetos at a total value of $250. They say the teens took a box of dishes from the porch of a home in the 7900 block of Ardmore Avenue in Parkville at a value of less than $100.
They say the teens stole the Jeep Wrangler and a Maryland license plate from another victim.
Warren Brown, an attorney representing Harris, said his client did not intend to harm Caprio, but he panicked and attempted to drive away.
Gayle Robinson, the deputy district public defender in Baltimore County who appeared at bail review hearings for two of the teens, did not return requests for comment.

The state’s attorney’s office declined to comment on the indictments. The office said in a statement Wednesday that it is “committed to assuring that each of the charged defendants and the citizens of this State, including the family of Officer Caprio, receive a fair and just trial.”
Police say they arrested Harris a short time after the confrontation with Caprio. Ward, Matthews and Genius were arrested the following day at two homes in East Baltimore. All four teens are held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
All four are charged with first-degree murder in Caprio’s death. Police say Ward, Matthews and Genius were inside the home when Harris allegedly ran over the officer.

State law allows authorities to file murder charges against co-defendants in a crime in which someone is killed.
Each of the teens is now charged with first-degree murder, seven counts of first-, third- and fourth-degree burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, five counts of theft, and four firearms charges related to the stolen Heckler & Koch handgun.

Our so-called penal institutions are a fucking joke! We need to go back to chain gangs, armed guards who are required to shoot escapees, etc.

I remember a case from some years ago where a bunch of prisoners decided to riot. They took over some portion of the prison. After a short while the authorities decided to use CS agent. (an especially potent tear gas).

They drilled holes in the roof and dropped the canisters into the cell block held by the prisoners. Miraculously, the inmates decided to give up.

Some time later the same kind of situation came along. Only difference was that the guards threatened to do the CS thing again. The rioters went back to their cells.

I was in CBR while in the army and know of a couple of items that would convince the perps to stop their silliness. My favorite would be CNDM. AIR, a nice tear gas mixed with a vomiting agent. And that vomiting agent will convince folks that they are puking up last months meals.

Of course, we cannot do that. It might upset the perps.

While this rhetoric has died down you get a insight into how his supporters think.

"They said the teen was “ducking” in the Jeep when he tried to drive away, but instead, the Jeep struck and killed Caprio in the process.

Court documents state Harris told investigators he “drove at” Caprio.

Gordon said if Harris hadn’t ducked, the shot from Caprio’s gun would have killed him and “we’d be talking about an officer-involved shooting instead.”

“We want to know why Officer Caprio found it necessary to draw her weapon on a 16-year-old,” he said. “We want to know why she fired a shot into the front windshield.”
http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/...end-kill-amy-caprio/

Compare it to:
"Baltimore County Police Chief Terrence Sheridan said Caprio arrived and saw a black Jeep. She followed it into a court, where it stopped and turned around. Caprio got out of her car and ordered the driver of the Jeep to get out.

Charging documents said Harris admitted that he "drove at the officer."

"He admitted that he partially opened the driver's door, but then shut it and drove at the officer," the charging documents state.

A source familiar with the case said the officer's body camera video gives a clear view of her standing in street as the vehicle comes at her. She fired one shot and got hit by the vehicle and was thrown."

Seems clearly the officer was defending her life.

an update to this sad story

https://baltimore.cbslocal.com...-death-plead-guilty/

Three other teens charged in the death of Baltimore County Officer Amy Caprio appeared in court Monday for a motions hearing, but plead guilty.

Darrell Ward, 15, Derrick Matthews, 16, and Eugene Genius, 17, were charged with burglary and first-degree murder after Caprio was run over by a 17-year-old Dawnta Harris driving a Jeep they were all riding in last May. The teens were all charged as adults.

A felony murder conviction requires a mandatory life sentence, but as a part of the plea deal the prosecutors ask the judge to cap the sentences at 30 years.

The driver, Dawnta Harris, was found guilty in Caprio’s death on May 1, 2019.

Harris is set to be sentenced this month.

Caprio had responded to a call about a burglary in progress when she confronted the teens inside a stolen Jeep. As she told them to get out of the car, they refused and instead drove toward the officer. She fired one shot, but was run down and died from her injuries.

There is no way I would be a cop nowadays. It’s a no win situation.

Good cops out there certainly have my respect.

Death penalty. That's what the driver deserves.
I also believe that he deserved representation but his lawyers should be ashamed that they publicly questioned why the officer shot as she was being murdered. They did it pro bono so we know they were just after the free publicity. Shameful.

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams
