The wet snow we just got sticks to the auger of my snowblower and quickly reduces its effectiveness. Any suggestions for something I can do to minimize that? Would spraying the blades with PAM help? And no, mounting blow torches on the front while snow blowing to heat the auger is not an option!

Pam most definitely helps, BUT, with heavy wet snow, It is just part of the deal. Go slower, open shoot up more to do everything possible to get snow out and away... Wet snow is just tough.

Wait, what? |
Throwing wet snow is never efficient. I have resigned myself to using the little shovel that is clipped to my Ariens to pick it off the auger and shroud whenever the work starts to look sloppy. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Fluid Film works best, silicone spray in a pinch, reapply often. -Scott -NRA Pistol Instructor -NRA Shotgun Instructor -NRA Range Safety Officer -NRA Metallic cartridge & Shotgun Reloading Instructor -MA Certified Firearms Instructor

Another vote for Fluid Film. I use it on my plow blade and it works great. It is also environmentally friendly so you don’t need to worry about that. ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll try Fluid Film next time I can get out to buy some, but I may have to settle for the wife’s PAM in the meantime.

I also use silicone spray with success. Best to apply outside and far away from just about anything...

I've used a left-over spray ceramic auto product on the paddle, chute, and interior housing of my single stage. Nothing is sticking, even the heavy wet stuff. I also do this to my show shovels. P229R - 9mm Kahr PM9

They sell a couple of sprays specific for this purpose. We don't get really wet snow here often enough for it to matter, so though I have a can, I've only used it once. It worked, but I've never really needed it again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The trouble with our Liberal friends...is not that they're ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn't so." I had thought about trying leftover ceramic coating from car detailing. A bit expensive and didn't want to waste it. Glad to know it works!

Car wax. On a dry snowblower. The thick, liquid stuff slobbered on generously. Let it dry. Even if it is only on the chute, it will make a world of difference. Used at the end of the season it will help prevent rust. Brand doesn’t matter. I look for half used containers at yard sales.

Sell all snow removal equipment and move your place of residence to a warmer climate where snow fall is not going to happen...... as my location shows south Louisiana residency I spent several winters in the great state of Alaska where snowfall in our area was a very dry snow that could easily be blown away .... so I do have some snow removal experience. ...................... drill sgt.
