My wife has lost all of our family photos from last years vacation that were on the flash media for her Nikon camera. We are thinking it was caused by cycling the camera when the battery was low and continuing to take photos. Can you provide any recommendations to get the photos back? Purchase some special software, hire someone to do it, etc.? We are talking probably 500+ photos.

I've also used recuva successfully. Reading the original post it sounds like you may have started overwriting since. If so those won't likely be recoverable.

These data recoveries can cost into the thousands. They can get pretty spendy, especially if the data has been overwritten.
Please, Please, PLEASE do not continue to operate the flash media or take any new pictures, as this will only make data recovery more difficult (or impossible).

I too have used Recuva successfully. Though for me, as soon as I realized what I did, I immediately pulled the card out and stopped using it. Recuva is free and definitely worth a try.
