Just got new computer running Windows 11 Pro. Want to transfer my recently updated ESET Premium security license from dead computer to new computer. ESET tells me I need to uninstall any anti-virus/security on the computer before I install ESET. Does this include the Windows Security that comes with the computer, or only third-party software such as McAfee or Norton that may also be on the computer? (It's not, as far as I can tell, but it was on another computer and I had to uninstall it before installing ESET on that computer.)

I would be reluctant to remove the OEM security that comes with my computer; will ESET play well with another kid in the sandbox? I know that I did not remove any Windows security-related software on my former computer before installing ESET, and it worked fine. That was Windows 10 machine.

Thanks, but that's where I started out, and it did not seem easy to just contact them instead of wading through a bunch of articles that didn't answer my questions. I joined the ESET forum and posted the questions there; I thought that might be easier. I'm checking back and forth from there to here.

Someone over there is typing as we speak...

Two have answered, effectively saying to just try installing it and it will notify if there is a problem. I'm not entirely comfortable with that idea; I've had anti-virus conflicts before with competing systems. I think I'll see if I get more responses before I try that.

I believe the Windows Security Suite or what you may call it, is built-in and you can’t get rid of it. You CAN disable it.

Most AV suites are aware of this and will disable MS programs if required when installing and you will be able to go back to the MS solution, if you ever get rid of your other brands suites.

I use Avira, Avast and MS on different machines.

Just uninstall anything that came pre-loaded on the new machine like Norton or any other brand, they probably just don’t want you getting any ideas of switching away to a competitor. Honestly I think what comes built in with Windows these days is all you really need.

I think you're right about the other brands of AV. And you might be right about Windows security, but I have done well with ESET, and have already paid for it. I might let it lapse later. Thanks for reply.
