Do---or do not.
There is no try.

It’s been several years since I was last in Washington DC, and my wife and I have a two-day layover there in a couple of weeks.

We plan to do some sightseeing in DC and will need to take the Metro rail and bus service to and from our hotel at Dulles Airport. I’m retired LE and LEOSA credentialed, and with the crime rate increasing even in the tourist areas of the city, I’d be nuts to go unarmed, especially on public transportation.

Do any members know the updated list of places in DC (buildings, museums, etc.) where LEOSA is not recognized?

Thanks!

I don't know of any list, nor am I familiar with the specifics of LEOSA, but all/nearly all Federal buildings in DC are entry-controlled with metal detectors present (some hidden). Depending on the attending guard, a pocket knife, kubeton, etc, will get you excluded, if not detained. DC Govt. buildings have also adopted these strictures.

Metro buses have recently been removed from the "no-legal-carry by anyone" zones, but I think the subway is still prohibited.

Best bet would be to call someone in the DC area and see what the rules are. Problem is there are soo many LEOs in the DC area the rules could vary just from crossing a street. Maybe range that administers the yearly qualification would be a good place to start.

Many of the fed building have a lock up box for visiting LEO’s. Ask at the metal detectors. Same at my Fed Court House.

I left my gun in the car locked up in a safe and chained to the frame when we visited DC. The Smithsonian had metal detectors at each building. And dealing with their BS was enough for me to never go back. I got nabbed at all but one entrance due to me carrying my knife and badge.

Granted this was years ago, but I can’t see it getting better regardless of the laws.

Best bet would be to call the places you intend to visit.
