I ordered the new Matthews VXR yesterday (31.5") and can't wait. I'm not sure how long it will take to get in, but in the mean time...does anyone here have one yet?

The local shops have the 28" in stock, but not the 31.5. 31.5 AtA is already pretty short imo, so I didn't want the 28.

I've read a little on the internet, but it's all the same crap. Gun rags and bow rags are no different. I don't have any really good bow youtubers who I trust because I don't follow the bow world as closely as I do the gun world.

But I trust y'all! anyone have one? thoughts good or bad? We don't have a bow section here, but I know I'm not the only archery guy in the forum.

ES, I got one (28 VXR). I just picked it up on 12/6. I have been dialing it in the last few days. I went with 28VXR, My DL is 27.5 and with larger SW CC I have no problems with my tip of the nose anchor point. I went from a Bear LS2 70lb single cam 320IBO to the VXR. On the VXR I got the 70 and the 60 modules and will probably get the 65lb module to experiment with. The VXR is my first Flagship high end bow, and, well it's unbelievable quiet and no vibration. I actually thought something was wrong with comparing it to my Bear which is a good bow. I suggest that what ever your DL is to try your true DL Mod and the Mod that is .5" below it. The recent years Mathews bows tend to run 3/8-.5" long on their Mods, YMMV. I went with the G mods which are 27" but fits my 27.5 DL perfectly. The Bow is rock solid at draw and I'll contribute it to the longer Riser and weight, it's impressive comparing my bear 31.125" ATA riser to the VXR28 Riser. I really like the draw cycle of the VXR but again I will suggest trying the different length DL Mods to find your sweet spot. What questions you got and sorry for the unorganized response, it's been a long week. Hray

I put a vertical trophy ridge react V5 on it and so far I like the vertical pins and less cluttered sight picture

Greatest bow I ever had (and stupidly got rid of) was a Mathews MQ1. Smmoooooootttthhhh. Like buttah.

Alas, I'm an idiot. No other bow has measured up, and I quit trying around my current Z7 model. Maybe one day, but with the trend to shorter ATAs, I'm doubting it. How does one know when the current cache of bows are really that much better (1K better, that is) than what's already in the back of the truck?

Thanks for the chart hray! I was actually trying to find it.

I agree that Matthews draw a little longer. I'm a 28.5" so I ordered the 28". I also ordered mine for a 60 lb draw and will get the 70lb mod. I can draw 70 fine, but when in a tree stand and it's cold and I've got several layers on, I like 60 a lot better!

That new green color is sexy! I kind of regret not ordering it. I went with the Optifade Elevated.

I was watching a couple vids on that trophy ridge sight last night. It looks pretty interesting. I'm a single pin guy and love the HHA Kingpin Lite, but your sight gives a similar clear sight picture without having to make adjustments and without all the added weight of the king pin. How do you like it so far? was it easy to sight in the various pins? HHA's are ridiculous easy and it's one of the reasons I like them.

...and as I'm typing this, I'm regretting not getting the green even worse!

Slab, the Travers is a 33" AtA I believe and is a great shooting bow. Definitely worth a try. I'd also try the VXR. Even though the largest AtA is 31.5", the riser is freaking huge! It's an inch and a half longer than on the Traverse 33" AtA.

I really think the much larger riser (more like their target bows) will be where Matthews goes over the next years. So smooth. I'd love to try a bow that keeps the same proportions of the VXR but scaled up to like a 34" AtA. That could be amazing.

Is any of it worth a thousand bucks though? Nope. Like guns, "worth" was thrown out the window a long time ago. Big Grin. In reality, a $350 bow with a basic 3 pin sight will be plenty to kill white tail at 30 yards, but I want to do it with more style! Razz

Have you tried some of the bows in the "competition" line vs the "hunting" bows? There are plenty of options with longer ata and brace heights if you get out of the manufacturer's marketing categories and just shop for the specs you really want.

ES, I'm digging the new sight. I'm still tweaking it but have been taking it slow so I'm not chasing my tail. I've been shooting in my yard so I'm limited 35 yards so won't be able to check the auto adjust from setting the 20 and 30 yard pin. As for adjusting, real simple. Look at the picture of sight and the top knob you loosen and not in the picture but there is a dial like the one on the bottom of the elevation in picture, turn left or right adjust it up or down then tighten knob back up. I can't feel any clicks just smooth movement. wind-age and elevation same principle. for the 30-40-50-60 they all move together by using a hex tool at the bottom. real easy. the react V5 uses the hex tool for setting 30-60 but the horizontal/ regular react sights have another knob type setup to do it. IMO the V5 has a less cluttered sight picture and the sight itself is more streamline than the horizontal one.

My short observation on shooting the gaps at 25 and 35 yards. When using the bag with bullseye it's a little more difficult than horizontal pins. I had to take a sharpie and make bullseye bigger. when shooting at a 3D target no problem and I like it better as all the pins and bars line up straight up and down. Kind of makes it easier to see if your torquing it. Hray

Edit to add. I thought about single pin but I wanted to keep things simple, no yardage tape and slider to mess with during the heat of the moment.

That’s a good looking rig hray. I believe that’s the Ambush color right?

I was very close to pulling the trigger on that bow with the longer ATA but found a Hoyt Helix in Kuiu Verde 2.0 at a price I couldn’t pass up, never set up or registered. Got it rigged out last weekend and she’s definitely a shooter.

Only thing keeping me from buying a VXR to set up for different scenarios is I plucked a Blackout RX 3 Ultra a week after the Helix, also for a low price. That thing is smooth draw wise, I usually shoot around 67 lbs but drew that one maxes at 72-ish with ease.

Love seeing Archery threads here, especially when it comes to hunting but target/comp is very cool too. And no, I’m not a brand snob! Even though I prefer Hoyt (they fit me a little better), my wife and daughter both shoot Mission which of course is made by Matthews.

Speaking of which, they’re not far from needing to upgrade. Might have just got a couple of Christmas gift ideas.

Twist, Yes that's the Ambush color. I was either getting the Stone or Ambush. When I saw the Ambush in person I loved it. So that's what I chose. Couldn't be happier with the bow. Hray

Love it man. That’s a beauty and pics don’t do that color justice IMO. It’s even better looking in person.

ES, give us an update/thoughts when your bow comes in. I'11 be going to Ga. with my youngest daughter in 5 days for the last of general gun. Going to take the bow and see if I get a chance at one. Also going to take a target to check out the 40-50-60 yard pins. All in all I'm extremely happy with the VXR and feel it's a life time bow for me. Oh, just a heads up when you change the Lb mods make sure you re time your drop away if you use one, I didn't think it would be necessary but it is. I Put a little mark on the shelf paint cause the arrow hit the drop away after I changed it down to the 60lb mod. I got the 65lb G mod coming in on Monday but wont mess with that until after hunting is over. Hray

@esdunbar

Back from Ga. and didn't get a chance at a deer with Bow. Did check out the auto set for 40-50-60yd pins with the TR React site and can confirm it works and is on. ES not sure what quiver you use but I use the Mathew's HD 6 arrow and only have it attached to and from my stand. What I found is by mounting the base for it on the bottom riser Vrs. the top it balances the bow out perfectly with or without the quiver attached to it. Plus if you where shooting with quiver attached and needed another arrow, to me, the ready slot on the HD quiver is in more of natural position to take an arrow out. If you do use the Mathew's HD quiver give it a try on both the top and bottom riser before you decide. Loving the new bow more and more.

Back to hunting my daughter took a pig on the last hunt with her 30/30 one shot pig facing us feeding. Base of skull through the center of chest, DRT. Happy campers all around. Hray
