I keep seeing references and talk about serving Mac & Cheese as a side at Thanksgiving lately.

Is this a Southern thing primarily? Seems strange to this Northerner, don’t get me wrong I love the stuff but to me the starchy side dish has always been mashed potatoes.

Yay or Nay to Mac & Cheese as a Thanksgiving side, let’s hear it!

Wife made one for a pre-Thanksgiving with some friends, turned out great.

Yay from here. In the South, Mac & Cheese is practically a food group. As usual, my wife will be making up a big batch tomorrow.

I've done a gourmet M&C with many different cheeses and bacon. That's the only way I serve it on Thanksgiving.

'Round here there will be taters and gravy, mac-n-cheese, and at least one type of macaroni salad.

Mom usually had green beans and green bean casserole, dressing (stuffing, that's not in the bird), and all kinds of things along with the two turkeys and a ham.

Growing up never seen leftovers. If we did it was enough for mom, dad, my sister and I for one or two days. Mom usually made soup or turkey casserole which was greatly enjoyed while it lasted.

I never understood why people complained about leftovers, but as I got older I discovered a few things. That most people couldn't cook a turkey as good as my mom could, and that people would have a lot of leftover turkey, something that didn't happen at home.

I miss those days.....

Mac is mandatory.

Mashed potatoes goes with turkey.

Mac and cheese (has to be homemade) goes with ham.

But if someone made mac and cheese for Thanksgiving and there was no ham, I wouldn't complain, would still need to be mashed potatoes though.

If you like Mac and Cheese serve it with your Thanksgiving dinner.

M+C is one of my wife's favorite foods, but we don't have it with Thanksgiving dinner. Carbs include mashed potatoes and rolls or biscuits, once in a decade maybe yams (my sisters like these, I don't).

While I agree it's not really traditional for Thanksgiving, IMO mac & cheese is a great side dish for just about anything.

Very common here, but only homemade. None of the box stuff on Thanksgiving.

Every year the wife makes her homemade, multilayer Mac.

Never had it for Thanksgiving.

I would not mind it.

Whipped White potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce.

Mac n cheese can go with any meal. Any meal.

A long time ago, we went to a Thanksgiving dinner that was vegan, just bland, flavorless crap food, but we were obligated to attend, first and last time. I brought a huge mac & cheese casserole with tons of butter,3 different cheeses, milk and cream, etc. The host let it slide, it was served at the dinner table and was devoured by the host's kids, and by me and my family. Thank God for mac & cheese.
