Vests are underrated!

RileyVests are underrated!
I’ve got a Gyde heated vest along with a couple of the Carhartt vests and have really grown to like them. The heated vest is awesome but not very durable as it’s nylon faced. But it’s lighter and softer than a Carhartt.
The Carhartt is plenty warm and much more durable. It’s the one I wear for working on stuff. The Gyde gets worn for shooting and riding in the side by side since it’s softer and more comfortable.
Oh, and scarfs. I usually wear a thin poly neck gaiter but for colder temps or higher wind, a scarf works better.
If I need a balaclava, then I’m probably not doing anything fun and not for long.

dewhorseSince moving to Texas a good vest is essential.
I have several, from Mountain Hardgear to an Irish wool one my wife wore while pregnant.
my favs are my brooks brothers and an LL Bean wool one.
Good for warm winter conditions
And yes a good scarf is under rated, so many uses.
I started using a neck gator when US Cav sold them as SAS headcovers, it was an piece of my kit from Korea to Ft Drum...then they started issuing them....a POS knock off.
Still have several and they are a great cold weather piece of kit.

snwghstAgreed!!
When I skied hard core (120+ days averaged) in MT my layering always included a vest
Polypro/ silk/ capalene. (What ever didn’t stink that day, sometimes they all did)
Wool shirt
Down vest
Windshell
That was enough to keep me warm to about -10
Below that I’d put a lightweight fleece jacket in the mix
I used the same vest under my leather while riding my shovelhead during the cooler fall and winter months. Same shell over the leather when wet

reflex/deflex 64I'm 5 deep in vests. From Filson wool, moleskin, goose down and a couple work wear ones in between, I like my vests.
I have a feeling they are the reason I have no use for a hoody.

jigray3I wear vests as part of layering to keep the core warm with less the bulk and restriction.

Balzé HalzéDuring the long, cold Utah winters, I wear exclusively a Parajumpers vest, both on the slopes and off. I now have three of them. I'm always plenty warm.

UTsigI've worn vests three seasons since moving to Utah. I have a couple of Mountain Hardware, a nice, light Patagonia and a Barbour.
The MH are my go to, Wind Stopper and water resistant.

ensigmaticI love vests. I have...
- A down Eddie Bauer vest I've had for ages
- A surprisingly warm, light-weight, packable down vest that's great under light rain gear in case it turns cold
- A lightly fleece-lined, light canvas "dress" vest
- A Carhartt vest for yard work and the backwoods (uninsulated)
- A Wilson's Leather "knock about" vest with an embossed flag and eagle on the back--bought on a whim
Some day I shall have this dress vest:

Move to northern Minnesota and you might rethink the hoodie with a vest. That is my weekend wear.
