I am interested in a 9mm 1911 for carry and steels. I don’t have the budget for a Wilson.

I am considering this:

Does anyone here own/shoot this gun? Comments?
Anything else I should consider?

Thanks,

Mike

My dad seems happy with his Tisas

Seems well built and within a reasonable price.

I have a Colt competition 9mm government and it's a terrific 1911, and I do own a Wilson Combat and Ed Brown. It's a very tight and great shooting gun.

If you want a budget gun, find a Gallery of Guns dealer close to you. Buy an inexpensive one and they give you a lifetime warranty. I have been pleased with the Armscor pistols.

To answer your question, I have not owned that model but the ones I have owned have been great guns.

I have a stainless Springfield loaded 9MM 1911, that is a sweet shooting gun, wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I just bought my first 1911, a used Dan Wesson Specialist Commander in 9mm.
I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed and it is a tack driver. I've already ordered a carry holster for it.
I feel like I'm backsliding (from a 17 round P365) to a heavy 10 round chunk of steel, but man this thing just oozes quality and class.

I am happy with my Tisas Stingray. It is an alloy framed, Commander sized 9mm. They are priced low also.

I also recently bought a used Ruger LW Commander sized in 9mm and have been pleased with it.

I have a 9mm Ronin lightweight commander sized 1911 and it’s the cats meow. Soft shooting even with an aluminum frame.

I currently EDC a CDR in 45, but the Ronin can easily fill the bill.

Do it, whether you small like Tisas or Springfield, or big with Wilson or Staccato in a 2011. Either way, get what you’re wanting.

If I can sway you in any way, check out the DWx compact, the full size is a behemoth of a pistol, but the compact feels like a split between commander and full size 1911 but with amazing ergonomics, better capacity, yet still keep the same controls for the most part. And the trigger is the same!

I love my Colt 1911 Combat Elite in 9mm.
The Springfield you reference looks like a very nice pistol.

Thanks,

A friend has the Springfield without the rail. I’ve shot it and it’s a fantastic pistol.

Our Springfield 4” EMP Ronin is one of the most accurate and easy to shoot 9mm pistols we have.

I second the Colt. I have a competition series (two actually, one 9mm, one .45) and my wife has a gold cup lite in 9mm. The gold cup lite has a better trigger and sights, but I like them all.

Is this an older gun? I have heard that Colt’s QC hasn’t been very good lately.

My Colt competition s/s 9mm government is about 5 years old. It is by far the tightest Colt I've ever handled, and i've owned 5 Colt 1911's over the years (currently have 2). The slide to frame fit AND barrel bushing fit rival my Wilson Combats, the trigger is very very good although a touch heavier than WC or Brown. Only place there is a little play is the grip safety has a little side play and trigger can wiggle up and down a little. But the gun is very tight, very accurate and shoots great. It comes with a Fiber optic front site, G10 grips, skeletized hammer, 3 hole adjustable trigger etc. etc. The beauty with Colt in the $1000 range of pistols is you can shoot the heck out of them and still get over 85% of your money back when you sell it. My customers business makes the slides for Colt, they run VERY tight tolerances.

I bought the Combat Elite this year a few months ago. I have made a few changes. As mentioned just above, the trigger was a little loose so I fitted a new one, changed the thumb safety from ambi to one sided because I don’t like ambi, and put on new hammer/sear/disconnected because I can’t help myself. As stated above the grip safety was a little loose but tuning the sear spring made a big improvement. My first range trip with the pistol I fired 400 rounds without any malfunctions. Here is the pistol out of the box. All of the changes I made were not necessary.

Thanks,
KPSquared

That looks sharp. I really want front strap checkering. The Springer does not offer it unless I step up to the TRP or use skateboard tape.

What's your budget? "Cheaper than Wilson Combat" still leaves a pretty wide range...

At $500 or a little less, there are some decent inexpensive imported 1911 options like Tisas.

At ~$700, the Springfield Ronin is right about the best bang for the buck in the $500-$1000 1911s.

Or at ~$1300, the Dan Wesson ECP or Guardian (or even a used example of one of their fancier or discontinued models) is the best value in the $1000-$1500 1911 price range. Dan Wessons are superb quality, and they punch well above their price range.

Check out Dan Wesson models also, I'm impressed with my ECO in 9mm.

Also, my nephew just bought a 5" Ronin govt model, for the money it's a great pistol. His is 45ACP, but I believe they are available in 9 also.
