Full inguinal and open surgery. In and out in 4 hours with an epidural. Get it done sooner than later. As some mentioned - you can wait - but if shit goes sideways this fall elective surgeries may not be an option. Good Luck.

I'm just interested in the financial aspect. You have a definite deductible expense with the hernia operation, right? If you're like at 50% of your max deductible, I say get it before the year ends and roll the dice if you still have any expenses next year. But make sure all your follow ups happen inside of this year, just in case. If you haven't spent much in deductibles this year, I say you can wait until January then you have next year covered as far as your deductibles go. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I’m at a about 11% of my $3000 deductible and the follow up will be in 2022 if I have the surgery done in December. The surgery this year will surely eat up the rest of my deductible. You’re thinking the way I’m thinking. Since I don’t have much deductible paid this year and it resets 3 weeks after the surgery then why not just use the surgery in January to eat up the deductible for the entire year. Then the follow up is covered and if the PCP wants lab tests, I’ll be covered. You make sense to me. Thanks.

My wife's surgeon said the same thing 'most people wait until winter', which is why we chose to go early.

I got everything scheduled today. Surgery is set for December 17, 2021 with a follow up on January 5, 2022. Turns out my deductible doesn't reset on January 1, it's in June. So I picked the soonest date after my work schedule is complete.

Wow. That's odd. Not that I don't believe you. I have a couple of issues following up with my wife's and my medical insurance. It feels like they deliberately try to rip me off. I had to pay a co-insurance at time of service and the eob says I don't owe any co-insurance because I met the deductible. Now, I have to follow up with the doctor. I had a refund coming to me for my premium. I called in August. The person said it will get sorted out automatically. I wait. I followed up with a secure message on their site. Someone calls me and leaves a message to call back. I call back and get put on hold for an hour. After the hold, the person I talk to says they have to transfer me. I wait some more. Then the person says, "Yes, you account shows a credit of so many dollars. Would you like me to initiate a refund for you?" WTF. Ya think I would like to get my money back? Like they wouldn't have done anything if I hadn't followed up and endured waiting on hold? "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. The doctor prescribed Celebrex 1 week prior to the surgery and 3 weeks after. For my last hernia surgery in 2012 there was no prep required and IIRC there was only one week of anti-inflammatories afterward. Is he being overly cautious or is this normal procedure these days?
