Computer help please Autocomplete not working in Gmail Login/Join

The autocomplete function for my Gmail account suddenly stopped working. I have to manually type in the address. None of the internet suggestions seems to work. Any ideas?

You haven't turned it off on your phone by chance? Settings transfer across the whole of google.

No I checked. Curiously it will autocomplete addresses in HTML view. I just do not like HTML view.
