My noon meal yesterday was a Ploughman’s Lunch (or fairly close). The three basic items are bread, cheese, and pickle. Chunks of bread are pulled from a loaf. English cheese, e.g., cheddar. The pickle is Branston Pickle, a kind of relish (very tasty with crunchy bits).

My variation: Bread – German-baked Mestemacher Pumpernickel (toasted). Cheese – A big slab of Gouda. Then Thumann’s Düsseldorf Mustard and black pepper. And yes, Branston Pickle. All assembled into a neat sandwich. Lordy, it was good. Must do this again!

Serious about crackers

Looks good.

Have you been to Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad? It’s a German deli, I always try to get there when I visit family in Sandy Eggo. The food is very good.

It’s just off the 5 by Costco, super easy to get to.

That much pepper would make me sweat. The Master Spice

Peppercorns are actually a tiny fruit, the drupe (a fruit with a single seed in the middle) of a flowering vine known as piper nigrum, grown in tropical regions, native to the Indian subcontinent and in Southeast Asia. Some of the best peppercorns in the world come from the Malabar Coast in the Indian state of Kerala.

My Ploughman's Lunch

Melton Mowbray Pork Pie,
A chunk each of...
Wensleydale, Lancashire and Cheshire cheeses.
Chunk of artisanal bread,
English pickled onions,
Branston pickle,
Hard boiled egg, cold and peeled,
Vine ripe tomato,
Colman's mustard,
And a pint of Guinness...
