A great article by Kimberley Strassel as usual. The Demorats know the boomerang is coming back.

For Fear of William Barr
The attorney general gets attacked because his probe endangers many powerful people.

By Kimberley A. Strassel
May 2, 2019 6:53 p.m. ET

The only thing uglier than an angry Washington is a fearful Washington. And fear is what’s driving this week’s blitzkrieg of Attorney General William Barr.

Mr. Barr tolerantly sat through hours of Democratic insults at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday. His reward for his patience was to be labeled, in the space of a news cycle, a lawbreaking, dishonest, obstructing hack. Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly accused Mr. Barr of lying to Congress, which, she added, is “considered a crime.” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said he will move to hold Mr. Barr in contempt unless the attorney general acquiesces to the unprecedented demand that he submit to cross-examination by committee staff attorneys. James Comey, former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, lamented that Donald Trump had “eaten” Mr. Barr’s “soul.” Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren demands the attorney general resign. California Rep. Eric Swalwell wants him impeached.

These attacks aren’t about special counsel Robert Mueller, his report or even the surreal debate over Mr. Barr’s first letter describing the report. The attorney general delivered the transparency Democrats demanded: He quickly released a lightly redacted report, which portrayed the president in a negative light. What do Democrats have to object to?

Some of this is frustration. Democrats foolishly invested two years of political capital in the idea that Mr. Mueller would prove President Trump had colluded with Russia, and Mr. Mueller left them empty-handed. Some of it is personal. Democrats resent that Mr. Barr won’t cower or apologize for doing his job. Some is bitterness that Mr. Barr is performing like a real attorney general, making the call against obstruction-of-justice charges rather than sitting back and letting Democrats have their fun with Mr. Mueller’s obstruction innuendo.

But most of it is likely fear. Mr. Barr made real news in that Senate hearing, and while the press didn’t notice, Democrats did. The attorney general said he’d already assigned people at the Justice Department to assist his investigation of the origins of the Trump-Russia probe. He said his review would be far-reaching—that he was obtaining details from congressional investigations, from the ongoing probe by the department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and even from Mr. Mueller’s work. Mr. Barr said the investigation wouldn’t focus only on the fall 2016 justifications for secret surveillance warrants against Trump team members but would go back months earlier.

He also said he’d focus on the infamous “dossier” concocted by opposition-research firm Fusion GPS and British former spy Christopher Steele, on which the FBI relied so heavily in its probe. Mr. Barr acknowledged his concern that the dossier itself could be Russian disinformation, a possibility he described as not “entirely speculative.” He also revealed that the department has “multiple criminal leak investigations under way” into the disclosure of classified details about the Trump-Russia investigation.

Do not underestimate how many powerful people in Washington have something to lose from Mr. Barr’s probe. Among them: Former and current leaders of the law-enforcement and intelligence communities. The Democratic Party pooh-bahs who paid a foreign national (Mr. Steele) to collect information from Russians and deliver it to the FBI. The government officials who misused their positions to target a presidential campaign. The leakers. The media. More than reputations are at risk. Revelations could lead to lawsuits, formal disciplinary actions, lost jobs, even criminal prosecution.

The attacks on Mr. Barr are first and foremost an effort to force him out, to prevent this information from coming to light until Democrats can retake the White House in 2020. As a fallback, the coordinated campaign works as a pre-emptive smear, diminishing the credibility of his ultimate findings by priming the public to view him as a partisan.

That’s why Mr. Barr isn’t alone in getting slimed. Natasha Bertrand at Politico last month penned a hit piece on the respected Mr. Horowitz. It’s clear the inspector general is asking the right questions. The Politico article acknowledges he’s homing in on Mr. Steele’s “credibility” and the dossier’s “veracity”—then goes on to provide a defense of Mr. Steele and his dossier, while quoting unnamed sources who deride the “quality” of the Horowitz probe, and (hilariously) claim the long-tenured inspector general is not “well-versed” in core Justice Department functions.

“We have to stop using the criminal-justice process as a political weapon,” Mr. Barr said Wednesday. The line didn’t get much notice, but that worthy goal increasingly looks to be a reason Mr. Barr accepted this unpleasant job. Stopping this abuse requires understanding how it started. The liberal establishment, including journalists friendly with it, doesn’t want that to happen, and so has made it a mission to destroy Mr. Barr. The attorney general seems to know what he’s up against, and remains undeterred. That’s the sort of steely will necessary to right the ship at the Justice Department and the FBI.

William Barr in the Crosshairs
By Robert Turner

Attorney General William Barr, in keeping with commitments made during the confirmation process and in an effort to quickly answer questions in which the public had a profound interest, provided within days of its receipt a synopsis of conclusions reached in the report of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The Mueller Report was issued following a lengthy investigation into charges that President Donald Trump or associates were involved in criminal collusion or obstruction of justice relative to dealings with certain Russians in an effort to illegally influence a U.S. election. Quoting extensively from Mueller's conclusions, Barr's synopsis explained that there was insufficient evidence to determine that laws had been broken or that conditions necessary to prove obstruction of justice had been met.

Within three weeks, Barr had further provided a redacted copy of the Mueller Report for public consumption and a less redacted report for the appropriate congressional committees. The information provided and conclusions found in the redacted report, while not what Democrats or their media co-conspirators had anticipated, conclusively demonstrated the integrity of the initial four-page synopsis for which Mr. Barr had been severely criticized.

Since the Mueller report has effectively brought to an end federal investigation into the actions of the president and his associates, the spotlight now turns toward a number of investigations that may reveal a far-reaching scandal like no other in U.S. history. Beginning before and continuing long after the 2016 presidential election, it seems likely that crimes of a preferred presidential candidate were overlooked while the campaign of the candidate in disfavor was spied upon without cause and accused of criminal behavior without evidence. It appears that U.S. and foreign intelligence services were politicized to first prevent the election of and then destroy a fairly elected president of the United States. It appears that multiple federal law officials lied to the FISA court to initiate unwarranted spying on American citizens, and it further appears that numerous government officials lied both to law enforcement and to the Congress to cover up crimes and obstruct justice.

With the appointment of Attorney General Barr and the conclusion of the Mueller investigation, a page has clearly been turned at the Department of Justice. The inspector general is concluding an investigation into possible abuse of the FISA court and the actions of former FBI director James (higher loyalty) Comey. U.S. attorney John Huber should be concluding his investigation into the FISA request to surveil Carter Page and whether the DOJ and FBI ignored allegations of Hillary Clinton's involvement in the sale of U.S. uranium rights to Uranium One. Attorney General Barr himself has initiated investigations into the underlying evidence presented for spying on a presidential campaign, leaks of classified information, and related crimes.

It seems clear that crimes have been committed. It is hard to imagine that there will not be indictments, trials, and convictions (perhaps many convictions). One has to wonder, however, what punishments exacted following convictions for various criminal acts can possibly be commensurate with the damage caused our nation through divisiveness, distrust, and literal hate created or intensified by the ordeal to which it has been subjected.

On Monday, Attorney General Barr met with the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions with regard to the synopsis and redacted versions of the Mueller Report — and, as it turned out, to defend himself from various and disparate charges questioning his understanding of law, his integrity, his decency, and his impartiality or lack thereof in his handling of the Mueller Report. One thing was made abundantly clear by Democrats on the Judiciary Committee: since the president has been cleared of the essential charge, criminal collusion, and is likely immune from further Democrat efforts to destroy him, William Barr has taken Trump's place at the top of the Democrat hit list.

It was absolutely necessary that Hillary Clinton be elected president in 2016. It was essential that Clinton control the levers of power to cover up the illegal machinations of the Obama administration. But she lost. Her electoral failure made necessary the destruction of President Trump. Impeachment was the goal, with irreparable disruption of his effectiveness as an alternative. While Trump's enemies came close to success, this also seems to have failed. The clear and present danger now is the unassailable William Barr. All of those things that must remain hidden — all of the dirty tricks, all of the leaks, all of the criminality — all is at risk because of William Barr. The Democrats and their sycophants in the media will be vicious in their efforts to destroy him. We have seen evidence of this since the day he released his synopsis of the Mueller Report. It will only grow worse.

William Barr, even more than President Trump, may be the most important man in America at this moment in time. His integrity, strength of character, belief in America, and belief in the rule of law are what stand in the breach between the destruction of America as we have known it and its defense and restoration. Never before in my lifetime has our nation or our attorney general faced a greater internal peril than today. If ever an attorney general needed our prayers, that time is now; that attorney general is William Barr.

Barr has the opportunity to become a true American patriot and hero if he busts this thing wide open and all players major and minor are held accountable to the full extent of the law. His status as an American patriot would become part of history for eternity.

If he kid gloves this he will be grouped in with the Comey's, Rosensteins et al who may have been good men at one time but stood by and did nothing. Men who cowered in the face of tyranny and corruption because they were afraid the traitors were too strong and powerful and would survive only to punish them.

We need that hero right now, right now is the time and the opportunity that will only present itself once. Trump can't do it alone. I hope 100 years from now history can look back at Mr. Barr as that hero.

Along with bringing the traitorous individuals from the DOJ and FBI to justice, Barr must indict Hillary for her crimes if we are to have any faith in a fair justice system.

The Kimberley Strassel and the Robert Turner articles were excellent. And very encouraging. So happy that we now have an aggressive and competent AG.

Do you think it would benefit Mr. Barr to get letters/messages showing our support and appreciation?

Would he actually get to see them?

The Dems are going to run a smear campaign against Barr that will make the one against Ken Starr 20 years ago look tame. They have to do everything to soften him up and impugn his credibility in advance of his going after the real criminals. Don't think it can't work.

That means the dems will stonewall and obstruct- Which means this will drag out and unfold during the 2020 election cycle.

From their actions, they appear terrified of what his investigation into the origins of the Russia-Trump "fauxllusion" probe will unearth.

Pelosi is saying he lied to congress

Warren and Schiff say he should resign

Nadler says he should be impeached

If all these democraps are so vehemently against him, he must be on the right trail.

Hillary is the Big Kahuna.
It's kinda funny since she isn't and never will be President, yet she overshadows both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

William Barr may write himself into the history books for revealing the worst political conspiracy and abuse of federal power in U.S. history.

Our country has long observed the incredible peaceful and orderly transition from one president to the next. The handoff of the most powerful position in the world.

Until now.

We have experienced a mammoth attempt not only to influence the 2016 election, but to overturn it by the most secret and comprehensive techniques of our law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

Para, I mean DON'T think it can't work. It CAN work. I'm not as optimistic as you on this one. With the entire MSM on the Dems' side, the marching orders are clear and only Fox will dissent. Barr is going to be a punching bag every single day for every news cycle. Sure, he's tough, he's the smartest guy in the room, and he can take it. But the goal here is to make him look totally partisan and/or corrupt such that anything he does to go after the real conspirators will always have a cloud of doubt over it.

Smear campaigns are useless tools at this stage of the game. The battle lines have been drawn between the public since Trumps inauguration. There are very few minds left to change. This isn't the OJ or Robert Blake trial. Smear campaigns are for public consumption nothing more.

The only question is will Barr live up to the moment and do what obviously needs to be done. On a grand scale. That means everybody involved in this coup faces accountability not just one or two low level players that are on the fringe. Right now it's Barr's moment smear campaigns are just background noise. I pray to God Barr can do what others before him have failed to do. The existence of this country is at stake.
