Lost mine December last year. Condolences. I made up my mind that I was going to be a better father and grandfather than mine was. I’m still doing my best.

Thoughts are with you, Otto. He's not in pain anymore and whatever you've been carryin' around can finally be set down. I read the other thread so I know how you left it with him. He made his bed. Still sorry to hear this. In truth, I'm actually kind of thankful because now it will be easier for you to just move on for good. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11 ...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

I'm sorry to hear that Otto.... my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Based on what I've seen here, you are a pretty good guy. Right now, there are probably many things going around your mind about your dad, good and bad, happy and sad, some worth remembering and others better forgotten. One day, though, you'll think of something and for no reason, you'll smile to yourself - 'my dad used to do that', or even, 'my dad would never have done that', but it will be a good memory. That's the day you'll really miss him. I know that's how it will be, because that's exactly what happened to me. My dad died in hospital 3000 miles away from me. He was in a hospital Shropshire, when I last saw him, and he was looking ill, but not too bad, I thought. I was in the Army, and gloing to my unit in Cyprus the next day - almost three thousand miles away. That was at the back end of September. He died, at home, on the fifth of November, 1971, and I was flown back to UK for the funeral, and to do the things that a some does for his late father whom he loved with all his heart. I'd never cried, though. To be honest, I was pretty numb about the whole thing. My new wife, whom I had married a few weeks before he'd died, was a pillar of support for me, something that has never changed over the last 53 years. We moved on. Years later I was sat in our living room in our house in Famagusta, Cyprus, and for some reason I tuned my head to look out of the window at the street, and a man passing by, and instantly thought 'hey, that's my dad!!' But as he turned, I saw it wasn't, and was never ever going to be, for rest of my life. I broke my heart. That was over fifty years ago, and I miss him every day.

My condolences. My father has been gone for over 31 years now. There were good times and bad and no one is (or was) perfect. Didn't miss him right away. Do now-

I’m sorry to hear your father passed Otto. My father was a lousy father also and I had the same lack of emotions as you are having. You always think about what could’ve been. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

My prayers to you and yours. I don't post very often but I do visit daily and this really hit hard. Mrs. Tinyman passed on Mother's Day and there is sorrow, pain, hate, anger but there are those moments you will remember that will bring a smile to your face. Again, very sorry for your loss. ______________________________ Stupid people are like glo-sticks. I want to shake the shit out of them till the light comes on

Prayers for you and your family. At the funeral of my father back in 1998, a family friend told me that you never become a man until your father passes away. I had chosen not to be or act like my father once I left home at 18 to join the Army. He was one to create drama in the family. I rarely reply to things but I understand. Be Safe.
