I would have sworn I read that these Artemis missions were limited to the current number of cycles due to them using older components, I thought from the Saturn V days incorrectly, and when they used them there were no more. Hence the limited scope of the Artemis program.

Any idea where I got that idea? I have been spouting that nonsense like it was fact and only recently found out my error.

I think I read that the SRBs are leftovers from the Shuttle program, and there are new variants being built for future missions.

It's been 51 years since I studied orbital mechanics in college. It never ceases to amaze me.

Space Shuttle parts are being used for both the SRBs and the SLS rocket itself. The rocket uses four of the Space Shuttle Main Engines, SSME. Since many articles about the SLS probably include comparisons to the Saturn V and the use of recycled Shuttle parts, I'll guess you added 2 to 2 and got 5.

These recycled space shuttle parts are now powering Artemis I to space

Also. I haven't looked it up or researched but I was thinking that when they do a correction burn, it's not so much to change direction, per se, but to "catch up" with the moon or earth that is also hurtling through space also. That fact that they only needed one correction burn going to the moon is a big victory, launching early in the window probably helped.

It is remarkable these people still exist. In this case, someone who was ostensibly a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship....

He's not exactly working on all thrusters. And now we know why he didn't get the scholarship.

Methinks he's watched Capricorn One too many times. Probably thinks the earth is flat, too.

A slight misunderstanding; I think he was actually considered a Road Scholar after completing his 18 wheeler training and getting his CDL certificate.

'All I'm saying is that we didn't go to the moon in 1969,' McElroy said. 'We didn't have microwaves, but we can go to the moon? We didn't have color television.

Yeah, by 1969 both color TVs and microwave ovens were fairly well-known in American homes, and had been around in commercial quantities for a good 4-5 years. Both things had been invented in the 1950s.

Some of those are pretty good. Too bad they didn't get any shots of the alien and Nazi bases on the back side.

Might violate the gift rule as it applies to federal employees.
