This place has been on my bucket list for a while. It's in northwestern New Mexico, near Chaco Culture National Historic Park, in an area called Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness Area. It's BLM land abutting the Navajo Nation.

That’s really cool. I’m shocked that no one has broken it yet.

That thought has occurred to me as well. Hopefully it’s far enough off the beaten path to keep the Boy Scouts away. (I’m case you aren’t aware, a Scout leader toppled a hoodoo in goblin Valley state Park, UT a few years ago.)

Wow! That is very far off the beaten path. And I thought I'd been to pretty unsettled areas of New Mexico! West-central mostly. Maybe I can swing through via Lamar and Pagosa Springs en route to St Johns.

I’m sitting in a pizza shop in Farmington right now.

Nice pic!

Might I suggest, if you are heading down 550 towards ABQ, stopping in Cuba at El Brunos. It's a definite treat! I can't go thru Cuba without stopping.

Awesome. I was just out at White Sands a few weeks ago, first time in New Mexico. Will definitely go back to see more of the state.

El Brunos is fantastic. It is a shame their old building burned down. It just doesn't have the same ambiance. The food is still great.

Riverside, actually. They make a pretty good calzone; they had awesome green chile. I had to take a CDL road test down at the horse track and will be back again next Friday for the same thing. I think I'll try to have lunch at Brunos on the way back to ABQ, time permitting.

I've lived in NM since 2008, but that was my first trip to Farmington up from ABQ. It was a very nice drive that would make a geologist or photographer pretty thrilled. I saw a sign for Chaco Culture National Historic Park.

That whole US550 stretch is amazing. Chaco is perhaps the most well-known scenic attraction along the way, but for those of us who love the road less traveled, there are a number of badlands in the area that are off the beaten path but worth exploring.

THIS LINK will get you started if you're interested in researching. HERE'S ANOTHER ARTICLE. The Bisti Badlands are very wothwhile and photogenic, and are best approached from the west (from NM 371 S of Farmington).

Also, if you're into mountain biking, the White Mesa trail by San Ysidro is incredible (and challenging, at least for this fat old man).

Am I the only one who thought this thread was going to be about hot wings (the food)?

I have to say this is much cooler. Thanks for posting.
