I know Wago 221 lever connectors have been a big hit lately, in place of twisting/capping wire connections. I've started using them for DIY electrical work around the house myself, and love the convenience.

But I see that Wago also has a 773 series of push wire connectors. Anyone with significant electrical/electrician experience have thoughts on these?



I've always been told by folks with more electrical experience than me that only hacks use push-in/stab-in connectors, such as those found on the back of some switches and outlets, with them being sloppy work at best and at worst being a fire hazard.

Does that still hold true for these latest push-in Wago connectors? Or are these the exception, due to modern innovations in technology/materials?

(I'm helping a friend finish out a tiny house, and we've been offered a bulk pack of 773s for free, verses buying a bulk pack of 221s which originally was the plan.)

Can't be as dangerous as using a pair of plyers to twist wires together and sealing it with some electrical tape to make a connection....

I'd maybe use them for connecting light fixtures when you're up on a ladder trying to connect the Romex from the house side to the hot and neutral leads on the fixture but nowhere else.

I am a big fan of the regular lever lock type Wagos though, those have replaced 99% of any wire-nutting I may have done in the past on work around my house.

The intended use is hooking up all the fixtures in the tiny house to the romex that's being run by the electrician.

Free 773s is nice for this "budget build", but we wouldn't want to increase the fire/failure risk just to save ~$50 by not purchasing the known 221s.

I will NOT use a push-in connector, period...EVER! They WILL fail. I have push-in/stab-in type wiring devices (switches and outlets) failing all over my house! Get the lever type Wagos if you're opposed to using wire nuts.

Been using them on job sites for years and years connecting light fixtures. Just do not exceed their amp rating.

as long as they're UL listed, and used per NEC, then I'm good with them.

My view as well : lever > push connect

We use that style when they come attached to light fixtures. We don't buy them for other uses.
