How long before someone takes down a police drone with a directed energy weapon (EMP), or hacks their control channel? Or, perhaps, publishes a video of a powerful politician's teenage daughter sunbathing naked in their backyard? This development has a ton of possibilities!

They don't need to be watching my backyard. Period.

How long before they have IR and are watching you in your house?

You have no expectation of privacy outside of your home.

It’s even legal for the cops to stand outside and look in through a window( make sure you pull the drapes closed)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the drone being a tool for the police and using them to look at problems, but I’m not for the local cops just flying it over people just to look. I think there should be a citable use of the drone like a disturbance call or the like.

Cities already use drones to fly over properties to watch for code violations, things they can tax, or things that require permits and fees. Police doing the same isn't much farther down the slippery slope.

Probably a long time.

Doesn’t need to be that high-tech/complicated. Think air pressurized “T-shirt” cannon but launching a net instead of a T-shirt.

Or even one of those can cannons. The polymer balls aren't that damaging to solid stuff, once gravity pulls them down, but have plenty of energy and accuracy to obliterate the larger drones.

I am totally on board with local, state, federal and world governemt agencies using any and all human and technological methods to monitor every facet of our actions and thoughts.

If you know its for the collective well being and you have nothing to hide, I am sure you'll agree.

Please don't actually do my suggestion. I didn't realize we were looking for legal ways to destroy police drones.

If it can be abused it will be abused.
Cameras on ever street light and now drones. Big brother sees all.
To all of those who quote 4th amendment stuff and laws Im reminded of that scene in star wars...

How do you think it would go over if citizens started flying these above police stations? Government centers? Police parking lots? I’m not comfortable with the man promising to use drones within a set of defined boundaries. If it can be abused it will be.

that's interesting because most police stations have jails and these are restricted zones for drones... the ones I have rely on GPS to fly and there are areas the dern thing won't take off in ore fly over with out getting specific waver code from the government. Jails and prisons are one of these...

being a licensed 'unmanned aircraft pilot' I'm not allowed to fly over people, which would include crowds or groups, and so I'm wondering how the police get away with this... but then they are the government.

maybe some of our LEO folks here will explain... and I'm not anti cop by the way... we need you.

There are exceptions to Part 107 for various government purposes, including law enforcement. Agencies can also operate under a Certificate or Authorization and not have their operators licensed under 107.

I haven't read the regs for drones, but for piloted airplanes, the required vertical and horizontal separation is defined in Part 91 of the FAR's.

In the past, I had a contract to do weekly surveillance flights for a marine biologist, very low level (200'); staying 1/4 mile offshore insured that I complied with the requirements.
