Just for the hell of it ![]() |
Headed there in a few weeks. Was going to hike Mount Washburn one day but the roads there are closed for repair. Looking for other good hiking options. 5-9 miles or something. Staying at Old Faithfull. What say those that know the park well.

talk to the rangers , give them your information , they live there, they know whats going on where, its sounds stupid right? but this time of year is sketchy. let them know who to contact , if they need additional information tell'em how long you will be there , let them know when you are leaving. We did the NRT in early August. It was pretty easy with a few spots that had amazing views. ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

If you're a low sea level flat lander like me, beware of the elevation. I visited there last time in September, no crowds and was beautiful..

Just a reminder. Yellowstone is not a good place to "leave established trails".

I visited Yellowstone last September and wished I had explored Grand Teton National Park as well. There should be less crowds in Yellowstone due to Covid keeping foreign tourists away. That should lower your chances of getting whacked with a selfie stick ![]() For viewing wildlife, consider bringing a spotting scope. Binoculars are usually too weak. https://www.nps.gov/grte/planyourvisit/hike.htm

We've been twice and will go back. Pick up a hiking guide and use that for reference, last time we went this was the best I could find: https://www.amazon.com/Mark-Ma...%2Caps%2C225&sr=8-16 The previous trip we just went and found "stuff" to do but the guide helped last time. Be sure to take drives and visit all the different zones. We put a lot of miles on both times but felt it was worth it.

We are doing the Teton as well. We have most things planned but checked the park website earlier this week and found road closures that would prevent us from getting to the trailhead of one of the hikes we had planned. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Not One of the Cool Kids ![]() |
I wish someone would have told me that before I spent all that time preparing for bears and bison only to be chased by an enormous bull elk in a rest area with hundreds of people around. He zeroed in on my wife like a Hatfield on a McCoy. Experienced elk hunters told me why that happened after but I won't go into that in public.

^^^I guess we could speculate here, but it might be a good PSA for those that are NOT 'experienced elk hunters'.... ![]() ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !!
