Been pulling my hair out since they released the last update. It's NOT working as easily as advertised. AGAIN. So let me share with you my recipe for success, you won't find it on the interwebs. First thing you should do to prepare your machine is to check if you have enough space to download and deploy the new release. 32+GB of free space should do. Otherwise start looking for room to temporarily move some of your stuff. Finding enough room to move some of your data will be a lifesaver... Next, using an account with Admin rights, type MSCONFIG in the search box and press Enter. Go to the services tab and check the bottom box that will hide the MS services and show only those from third parties. DISABLE ALL OF THEM, apply. If prompted to restart now, ignore and continue to the Startup tab. DISABLE ALL THE ITEMS on your startup. Now you can apply and reboot. Here's where the plot thickens and you won't find this on the Web, or at least not easily. I didn't. Windows has become a mean SOB that will go looking for trouble where there is none. It now searches your drive contents for things you might keep stored that don't please MS. Me, I usually keep a bunch of tools and drivers that ive downloaded and move around to fix others people computers. Previous W10 updates failed because I kept those unused files in storage. I completely forgot about this W10 intrusion and abuse but tonight after failing with 4 different computers I decided I would move this stuff to a removable drive and the update went smootly. So, if you keep drivers and related stuff in your drive, I suggest youmove them elsewhere before starting the update procedure. Once the W10 is updated, just type MSCONFIG and press Enter and proceed to enable your non-MS services and Startup programs and reboot. Wish Icould play World of Tanks underLinux so I would get rid of Windows for mu personal use. I really, really don't like how W10 does a lot of stuff. But it puts bread on my table. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Two of my laptops didn't update to 1903 automatically for some reason. All I did was use the Windows 10 Update Assistant and it then updated my laptops without issue.

For real? |
I had to manually force the 1903 update to every computer at work. Not minority enough!

Mine have all installed seamlessly without an issue on my personal computers. Haven't done any client ones yet or heard from them that there is an issue. If you are stretching the updates on really old hardware it is only going to get worse not better.

Just did the Windows 10 update Assistant route. The update killed all my WinAreo tweaks, reactivated the cloud, reset all the notifications, and I'm looking around to see what else.... I've lost the ability to run high speed data through my USB ports on my enterprise equipment. I now long for the days of proprietary hardware. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Here, poke at it with this stick.

Unfortunately, that's what feature updates do in my experience. It's like updating to a new version number of Windows but Microsoft stopped at 10 and won't change that number.

I got 2 of my machines updated to 1903 with no problems at all, my laptop hasn't been updated yet. Did nothing special before I started.

A quick check on the googles brought up one article that claims MS knows of the issue but doesn't have a resolution yet. If the device being updated has any kind of removable storage attached, it could trigger the update failure https://appuals.com/windows-10...till-working-to-fix/ "And I think about my loves, well I've had a few. I'm sure your are aware you can: Roll back the update. Possible solution is new driver or roll back driver or device settings. Try installing after market port/adaptor. Good luck, would love to hear if and how you solve it.

That happened here. But I was prompted to remove the devices and the update continued from where it had been temporarily stopped. Haven't seen any ill effects other than what I previously mentioned in my earlier post. Been updating machines that aren't old, those I backpedaled to W7. But quite often I copy full contents of a drive im about to mess with to my computer and that is the stuff W10 chokes on as if there were registered drivers and such. Also a previous W10 beheaded a perfectly working copy of Nero 17 or 18. Just for kicks. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Rollbacks failed. One of the "updates" was a Dell bios "update" against malware that could attack the processor that could not be undone. Nothing would fix them. They were bricked. I did try USB card, but the software that drives the devices only look for motherboard devices that I can assign the ports out directly. SAi failed to recognize the card even though the computer did. The internal ports did work, but they would not allow high speed serial communications. I have to shove HUGE amounts of data down those ports and the equipment on the other end will not tolerate USB3 protocols. I bought two new computers today. I WANT a pair of Macs to drive this RIP software, but they would rather spend thousands on garbage powered by the not ready for prime time Windows 10. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Sounds like you just prefer Macs which is fine but W10 isn't your issue but likely crappy outdated or misconfigured hardware.

No, the hardware was working great one evening, then the next morning after the updates it was hosed. These were Dell professional 5800 series workstations. The rollbacks and my mirrored drives from the week before I keep in my file cabinet didn't even solve the problem. I now have two new Dell i9 workstations with the latest hardware on my desk that I now have to configure all over again. This isn't like some home computer with some little home office printer device running microsoft office. I have to linearize and profile the printers, set ink limits, but the spectrophotometer software is flakey under 10 at best. I can't use the robot, but can manually scan 2500 tiles in on each machine on each substrate. If someone knows something I don't about getting this software to work, I'm all ears. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Here, poke at it with this stick.
