ZSMICHAELCalifornia will become 1st state to ban retail sale of dogs and cats
Is this feel good legislation or will it really help the problem with puppy mills?
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In a few days, California will become the first state to ban the retail sale of dogs, cats and rabbits from pet stores in an effort to crack down on puppy mills.
FOX59 reports, with AB 485, signed back in October, the state hopes the bill will help keep animals that were produced in mass-breeding facilities, also known as puppy mills, out of the state.
Starting on Jan 1., California pet shops will only be allowed to offer dogs, cats, and rabbits from local shelters and rescues.
CAPS (The Companion Animal Protection Society) President Deborah Howard submitted extensive written testimony and investigative evidence to the Senate and Governor Brown in support of AB 4

911BossYet breeders will still be able to have their bitches and sires procreate for profit I am sure.
Common joe can’t just get a pet for his family, yet the elites will still be able to since they can afford $800 or more for a registered/papered animal of proper lineage from the “appropriate” retailer...

Let's see. Have drug laws prevented the sale/use of illegal drugs? Have laws prevented murder? Have speed limits prevented speeding? I could go on for some time with this theme. So long as buyers are readily available with cash in hand (i.e. 'Demand'), and they will be, the 'supply' of animals will always exist in one form or another. Government should always be viewed as part of the problem, not the solution.

So, those puppy and kitty mills that they cannot shut down now, those folks are going to immediately stop and close their doors???
I don't think so

corsairSo, instead of putting into place regulatory compliance processes (like hospitals, auto dealerships, gas stations, and firearm retailers) that pet retailers and suppliers have to adhere to, they instead just want to wipe-away an entire segment of commercial enterprise. I'm all for getting rid of puppy mills and exposing those cruel to animals, however, this comes across as a ham-fisted way to solve a problem.
It also smells of a leftist organization that was given legitimacy by the Gov of CA; now that they've gotten their bill passed and the ear of eager legislators, the next set of laws need to be formed. Keep in mind, the veterinary field is very popular with lesbians, the most susceptible and encouraging of the far-left rhetoric.

It's been my experience that people who are attracted to places like that, or who live in resort-like areas, tend to be soft in the head. You are right, flashguy.

I asked one of the morons who voted to ban dog racing here in Florida if he was comfortable with the reality that his vote insured the deaths of 100's if not thousands of greyhounds given they will soon be worthless. He seemed a bit confused. Yeah.

slosigOf course the article is crap, as they typically are, but from a casual reading of the article, the law bans retail sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits from pet stores. So pet stores can’t sell them, but just from the (crap) article, there is nothing to keep the puppy mills from rocking on and selling through Craigslist or whatever. Typical half assed legislation that does not directly address the problem.

Surely you did not expect California legislators to use logic!
