I really didn't see this coming, but my district tapped me to take over as the administrator for the magnet high school where I teach. I'm excited to be making this change and a little overwhelmed. While I know that this will be the best thing for the future of my school, it will be a little strange to not be in the classroom after 13 years of teaching.

I'm blessed to have a family and a staff that support this change, and that means a lot.

I would appreciate your thoughts and prayers as I undertake this MAJOR life change. Thanks!

Excellent and congrats!! Does this mean you are an assistant principal or THE principal? You'll have to let the new teacher standing in for you know you get to conduct every so often just to make sure you still have the proper bounce in your ictus.

LOL! I'm still going to be working as a church music director, so I plan to keep my ictus sharp.

Technically I'm an administrative intern until I complete the necessary coursework. I then will technically become the assistant principal and the coordinator for the magnet school.

My junior high clarinet/sax teachers went this route as did my high school teacher. Two ended going on and getting their PhDs and our teaching at the university level now. I e-mailed my high school teacher last year as I needed a referral to get my Buffet R13 tuned up and didn't know where to go. You never forget a good teacher and music teachers can be some of the best in my experience. Good luck!

Good for you. Hope you get to help your school in this position.
I went after my bosses job when he was let go at the adult Ed shool I was teaching at. I had some huge goals set to bring our programs into a position to offer the kinds of things that employers could not find in prospective employees.
But, I did not get the job.
And for the next 7 years we just did the same old same old thing.
Good luck.

Almost 3 years ago I made the jump from faculty to department chair. It's been an interesting ride and at times I wondered why I made the change but all and all I'm glad I did. New situations and challenges keep things interesting.

Congratulations and welcome to the dark side!

Congrats on the new job. Now you can consider bringing concealed carry as a policy to the school.
