Have a new prescription for computer / sights distance and another glasses for regular distance.
Both include blue light and AR filtering.

Years ago I posted that the AR filter comes as a coating and i've had terrible experience with them scratching and getting ruined in a matter of days. Opticians told me it was my fault and to get lost. Warranty is a lie, they make a ton of money (double the price of the glasses) and they just blame you for not taking proper care.
My current glasses don't have it and i has been one thing less to worry about.

Now, this blue light filter is news to me but i'm told it can be integral part of the glass and not a coating. How important is it?

I have always ordered the AR as I like the way it keeps the glare of the glasses when others look at you. At least that is what I think it does!

I also get the anti-scratch coating. I believe the supplier failed to put that on my last pair and they have obvious circular scratches from cleaning, the only pair of the five or six we have and all use the same cleaning process, solutions, and soft cloth.

As far as blue light filtering, never heard of it, unless that is what we call here, polarized. If it is polarized I always want that in my sunglasses. A quick lookup on the 'net shows that polarizing does filter out blue light, so go for it if you're looking to buy sunglasses.

I have never been offered that feature for my regular clear glasses.

Blocking blue light is to aid sleep. You do not want to block blue light during your wake periods as this helps you get to sleep. You DO want to turn off / block blue light (room lights, electronics (phone, other devices, alarm clocks) 1-2 hours prior to sleep as this will help. I stopped wearing sunglasses as the sun exposure is crucial to better sleep.

Thank you guys.

Had never heard of blue light filtering until now but they tell is related to electronics glare.

First time I hear of anti-scratch coating. I ruined my anti-reflex coating in record time and consulted several optitians that simply put the blame on me and went on with business. No solution, no help.
Help I got from SF, as many told me AR should come with a warranty and it was very fragile. I skipped the AR coating with my current generation glasses and i'm happy with the results. No worries.

Wondering if the blue filter is something i need or something they just want to sell me.

Thanks.

Consider the BLF as a possible protection for your eyes regarding the smartphone display. I was watching chess videos before bedtime and noticed that my night vision was terrible, almost blind. So I turned on the BLF, decreased the brightness, angle the display somwhat off to the side, and hold the phone at a distance.

The risk, I was told, is macular degeneration.
