Awesome gift from my MIL...Woobie porn inside
I saw several months ago a compnay that made Hoodies from Woobies, aka poncho liners, what a cool idea!

Me not being the Hoodie type...never really wear hoods unless it's raining thought to myself....self a Woobie vest would rock...well I found some but the reviews regard poor quality and sizing issues stopped me from purchasing one.

Fast forward to Christmas morning and got these from my MIL....and I suppose my wife as my MIL does not speak English very well Big Grin

It's very well made and with the left over material she made a sleeping cap...yes I wanted a sleeping cap

My MIL started her career making Soviet Officers Uniforms and then went into business (illegal at the time) for her self making hats and other clothes.

Only thing missing to make this a perfect gilet is the name/branch/rank velcro which will be corrected before next drill Cool

Now give it 100 more washings and it will be perfect....silky smooooth

Who else clicked to find out what a woobie is?

It's a poncho liner then? And the poncho liner was converted into a vest?

That's hand-made? Wow!

I mean, I guess it sounds like the MIL is a professional, but still, that looks great!

Yes, but the mystical woobie has a special place in the heart of any service man who has spent time in the field or been deployed .... uncle Sugar rarely gets gear right...the woobie is one of those he did...

She is a professional....but still the small touches just amaze me, like the material covering the zipper or heavy duty material making up the pockets...just wow

I mentioned to my lovely wife that she could make these for profit and was told the cost of just the materials Eek when you figure in the man hours there is no way someone would pay that kind of money ...that's why home made gifts are special

Woobie was making the rounds before 2000 - yet I'd never heard it. Seems active duty was hiding it so they could tell who were Reservists etc. ; )

Popped up on the internets over ten years ago and it's now the common term.

In The Day, the two major aftermarket suppliers in gear were selling M67 jacket liners in high density insulation, and the first mod I ever saw was sewing buttons on one to use it as it's own garment. After that you'd see a poncho liner converted by sewing it into the wet weather jacket, and those were out before Goretex. And warmer, too. Choice field gear when you could get it.

One mod to a liner was sewing in a 72" zipper on one side to make it a lightweight sleeping bag. I still have mine from GTMO. What usually happens is the quilting stitches all wear out down by your feet. Just after I got out fleece was coming out that way, and its competitively warmer, albeit a nasty mess outside the house. Woobies rule in the outdoors.

Any time I camp they get taken, especially the zippered one for summer use. About all you need or want.
