Serious as a heart attack
There is no way to properly appreciate the phrase “serious as a heart attack” until you find yourself having one. When you are having a serious heart attack nothing else matters. Last night I was doing chores at our lake house, yes I am an asshole with a lake house, specifically tying down the tarp on a dump trailer after doing some cleanup. Suddenly and without any sort of warning I felt as if an anvil had been dropped on my chest and was pistoning into me about every 2 seconds. I began sweating like the whore in church.

I was a fairly healthy and active 54 year old male with no health issues beyond bad knees and GERD before I became a heart attack victim. I instantly knew I was having a fucking doozie of a heart attack, fortunately my Girlfriend and youngest son (adult) were there so I dropped everything and had my Lady race me to the nearest big cardiac hospital (45 minutes away). She made good time and got me to the ER with exactly zero minutes to spare. I went into defib on the table 15 minutes after arriving just as the surgeons got the stent in place to open up my completely blocked LAD i woke up soon after getting the shock treatment to blessed partial relief.

Through stupid luck I am alive to post this warning. One more red light, mild symptoms, nobody to drive me-or even a backed up ER parking lot would have meant my certain doom. Get your shit in order boys, the grim hand of the Reaper is never far. Get those wills and living trusts made sooner rather than later, set up automatic transfers on all your accounts to keep them out of probate, and if you even think you are having a heart attack, go to the fucking ER. I do not believe in the god that most on this forum pray to so I discount a higher powers influence, but so many things had to work out for me to survive when 88% of those struck by the “widow maker” don’t. Hug your loved ones, call your adult children, do something nice for the old lady, give the dog a bone, eat a fucking vegetable. Rage against the dying of the light! There will be no discussion of AC units from me for quite some time.

Wow. I'm glad you made it. And good advice, especially not to screw around if you're having any symptoms. Better to be "embarrassed" that you're not really having a heart attack than to maybe end up dead.

Another phrase is, a second lease on life. One can only fully appreciate it if his life has been on that edge. May you continue to be blessed.

Damn man, so glad to hear. I would have been scared shitless. I live alone, no family to speak of, so when that moment comes, I’ll be deep in prayer as I do believe in God. Glad you made it!

welcome to the club, been there and done it.... except I had three the three days before the final lock down. I did not go into defib. but I did travel to a different planet and look down into a unfriendly valley while laying on that cardiac Cath table.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

WHOA!, stlhead! So glad you made it!!

Dad had a MASSIVE MI before he was even 60...much like yourself. He coded twice in the Life Flight chopper. For me, I had ZERO symptoms and wound up on the table with a 3x CABG in 2019...worst one was 100% blockage of right coronary artery. If it had been the left, I'm not so sure the outcome would have been the same success that it is today and I would be sitting here typing this message.

God bless, brother!!!

Very glad that you’re still with us! I wonder if this Kardiamobile Personal EKG monitor would’ve given you an advance warning.

You offer good advice. And, it’s good to have a competent person or two around in a time of dire need.
Like many others here, I’m not fortunate in that regard, currently.

My father went through this at 47, it was me taking him to the ER. He made it, had a quad bypass at 56 and is now 81. He woke up and changed his bad habits. He had also been a 3 pack a day smoker for 35 years.
Glad you made it!

Glad you made it. I'm curious what lifestyle changes you are advised to make or what lifestyle contributed to this event.

I work in life insurance, so I'm around these stories every day, but it's usually pretty obvious from looking at the person and their living situation what caused the issues. I get regular bloodwork done and it's always "normal." But I'd sure like to get ahead of anything if it can be done.

Wow.

This is always so scary to read; especially with as you say, no warnings leading up to your event.

God bless.
