What difference does it make? why charge a bunch more , for one or the other? The U of Iowa wants to raise the non-resident fee for its kids that want to go there, from other states. what would happen if they all paid the same amount ? State schools usually receive tax funding from that state. Which a student / student's family hasn't paid as a non-resident.

They could drop the tax subsidies and charge private school tuition for everyone or raise taxes and charge in-state tuition rates for everyone. Either way somebody would scream over the cost.

Better yet, make it about education instead of for proffit paper mills. No reason one should be 100k in debt for a job that will pay 30k/year.

I believe in the principle of Due Process |
If that's the only benefit from going to college, then you have wasted the time and money. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Not all colleges are "paper mils," and not all graduates make 30k, and not all students accrue debt. It's very possible to work your way thru college and end up with a 75k plus job. Simply study the sciences (STEM) and get good grades. Both my daughters are engineers, have NO student debt, and make good incomes. One went to the University of Louisville, the other Purdue. And "proffit?" Back to the paper mill with you!

Not all schools are for profit, almost all (if not every) State University is non-profit. People can choose their own damn major and work harder, if they want to earn more. We don't live in a communist country!

Hell, just make it free for everyone and let the state taxpayers foot the bill, like New York. I do see a little problem with the 4th condition. I "planned" to, but then decided not to. "With the passage of the FY 2018 State Budget, New York is now home to the nation's first accessible college program - The Excelsior Scholarship. Under this groundbreaking program, more than 940,000 middle-class families and individuals making up to $125,000 per year will qualify to attend college tuition-free at all CUNY and SUNY two- and four-year colleges in New York State. The new program begins in the fall of 2017 and will be phased in over three years. In order to apply, students must: - Be residents of New York State - Attend a SUNY or CUNY two- or four-year degree program - Take 30 credits per calendar year (including January and Summer sessions) - Plan to live and work in New York following graduation for the length of time they participate in the scholarship program https://www.ny.gov/programs/tu...xcelsior-scholarship

Louisiana had a program where the tuition was free for instate students depending upon the ACT score. They made the big mistake of setting the score too low. At the last minute they realized they did not have the funds to cover it, and raised the ACT score minimum. That resulted in some very unhappy people.

Agreed. Go to an expensive school, study Art History, Film, Transracialgenderfeelgood studies, and expect to have a lot of debt and end up working as a barista. It's funny I see a lot of college bashing from the blue collar, yet they complain about not making enough money. People should RESEARCH their intended profession BEFORE embarking on it. A little bit of knowledge, early on, can spare you a lot of pain later on. YMMV.

They noticed too many farmers were having problems backing up their tractors. So Tractor Backing 106 and Barn Painting 214 courses were added to the curriculum. 41

I grew up in Chicago and we took great pleasure at laughing at the farmers from Iowa. I loved the movie reviews from Iowa farmers.

Just for the hell of it |
True I went in state and worked during college and finished with no debt. I lived at home and drove to school. I was lucky as I could drive to school while living at home. Missed out on the living at school and some of that stuff but didn't end up with any debt. My parents where not in a position to pay for my school so it was loans and in state and a job. I'm not sure I could do it today with the cost of college now even with in state tuition. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn.
