New Transmission Purchase Question about suppliers
Say you needed to buy a new F250 transmission but you didn't want to call ford or a Ford truck dealer.

Who would you call?

Gearstar, if you want to drop serious coin and have a seriously stout box

Jasper does remans/rebuilds

Is there a dependable shop that rebuilds them in your area, might be a good way to go.

Certified Transmission, rebuilding plant in Omaha, dealer locations all over,

My buddy has installed Jasper engines and transmissions for about 10 years at his shop. Can't beat the warranty

I would go with Summit racing reman. (Powertrain Products). Good customer service on the phone, and would help if there is any calibration needed. Be worth the call to see what they offer.

Not sure if it'll matter on the Ford, but PSD or gas?

I know on the Chevrolet side it would mean Allison or not, I suppose? Not sure if the PSD uses a different trans to the gas engine.

My GMC Jimmy decided to go forward but not backward (had to plan my parking carefully). Couple local transmission shops recommended re-built transmission from Jasper. I did that, never had another transmission problem in that vehicle.

I didn't think it would matter but a diesel.

It has to be a new oem tranny - reasons. So I appreciate the aftermarket ideas.

Any ideas if it has to be oem but I don't want to go to a dealer?

Curious - who builds the transmissions for Ford, anyone know?

6spd? 2017-22?
If so, it looks like it'll have the 6R140, which I believe is designed/built by Ford
Also appears the same transmission is used by the gas & PSD trucks.

all other Super Duty trucks were paired with the 6R140 6-speed automatic

Like the new Power Stroke V-8, Ford designed and engineered the 6R140 entirely in-house. Al Bruck, Ford’s 6R140 transmission engineering manager, says it’s a clean sheet design and represents the next generation beyond the 2008-10 Super Duty’s current 5R110 five-speed automatic transmission.

You mean like a warehouse type deal? there are several, I've never used any of them. This one shows transmission only, have to order torque converter separate.

Did it lose the 3-4 planetary assembly?
They ALL do eventually.

Jasper is fine, but the other side of the coin...

Before you order a Jasper, take time and talk to the shops in your area. Make sure the shop has been around a good long time, great reputation, etc, and make sure that they will be willing to do an install on something they did not sell you themselves.

And ask the shop if they will be willing to do warranty work on the Jasper, or other brand, consider who has to pay for what. You may or may not have to pay the labor up front to get the new one removed and repaired, for example, and that costs labor dollars.

If your local shop sucks, I'd greatly question having them do the R&R (remove and reinstall) work.
.
Best wishes to you.
