I worked for quite a few years in western Colorado. I still have friends in Colorado’s ranching community. Polis and others have responded to a Front Range driven referendum to release effin’ wolves in Colorado. Are they releasing them into Rocky Mountain National Park, following the experiment of wolves in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem? No. My assumption is that RMNP is on the east side of the Divide and folks in Estes Park and surrounding communities would actually have to live with what they voted for (by the slimmest of margins).
Wyoming declined to furnish wolves for Colorado’s effort to dump apex predators that reproduce like rabbits onto “public lands” on the Western Slope, so they got them from Oregon. Kat Urbigkit is a sheep rancher from Pinedale, but she’s also an author and writer for Cowboy State Daily. She is especially good at livestock and wildlife related stories—like this one, that involves Polis’…husband.
