I tried twice to reply more and explain the situation with him and that leg of the family (no pun intended Big Grin ) but decided I couldn't post either...

About all I can add is last I heard he does hold a job and is doing OK

Endeavor to persevere.

Glad he wasn’t killed. There’s nothing worse than an accidental death, except for suicide.

That’s what I said!

It's not an inevitability that you will have a negligent discharge, that attitude is just ridiculous.

I turn 50 this year and have been handling firearms since age 11 and have never had a NG and guess what, I never will.

That's like saying you'll eventually get electrocuted working with wiring in your house. If you ALWAYS do the right thing and ensure the circuit breaker is off and test the wire that it's not hot, you won't get shocked.

Agreed! I've seen this so many time over the years and it just pisses me off. I've been handling firearms for over 55 years and I have never had one, nor will I.

Whatever. Look, the whole point of that saying is to warn against complacency. Deeper meaning and whatnot. Ya’ll can spout “never” all you want. I said never also. Glad you guys haven’t had a surprise, I hope you never do. If you do, think of this thread and how you said you’d never have one. Smile

No. It's my understanding that ambulance rides arent either.

Yes they are. I was a paramedic 23 years and when on light duty from an injury I often filled out the insurance remittance forms. Our helo rides as well.

I have not had a negligent discharge.

However, I did once eject a round from an empty gun.

If you meant it that way fine! However, it seems to be a throwaway phrase that can in a sense be a self fulfilling prophesy that has negative intent. It's like talking yourself into stupidity.

In aviation, it is said that there are those who have landed gear up and those that will. Same thing about groundlooping taildraggers. If you talk to truckers running end dumps, many of them say the same thing about tipping end dumps over.

I prefer the approach, “I have not yet and am working diligently to make sure it stays that way.”, but that’s just me.

I like that! It is a positive statement!
