gibby29Got Rear Ended Today
Man, I feel for ya. Those full speed limit into a stopped car are the worse. That happened to me several years ago. He hit me so hard at a red light, he left my under mount spare tire broken and laying in the road.
As stated, I’d probably get checked out. I don’t usually but that one left me unable to take a deep breath and I was staring out the drivers window at the time. My right neck tendon was so sore the next day from already being extended.

WoodmanCan't turn out all bad. you're not hurt and have a decent attitude about the whole affair.
I totaled a truck once. Got a check for slightly more than I paid for the truck. Go figure. Just a thought here, but maybe you can gently remind the adjuster to include diminished value into the settlement, so you do not have to hassle your company go go after the Ram's company for a few extra thousand dollars. "Not the way it works" is a
reaction but the optimistic response would be, "Hey, you bet'cha, we'll look into that". If my truck was hit like that I'd take my told out, drive it up the block, and come back three weeks later to a new-looking truck. That's what you'll get; a new-looking truck, unless the frame is bent. Then who knows..

Get a checkup with your doc. You may not feel the effects today, but you probably will tomorrow.
I was a passenger some years back in a car that got rear-ended; we were slowed down for traffic to ~25mph, the other guy never slowed down and was going ~60mph. Felt okay right after the accident but I could hardly move the next day.
this,
had a GMC pickup slap my Cooper S in the rear just a couple weeks over 2 yrs ago,
I was at a dead stop on the highway, (traffic) dude said he reached for his coffee and never hit the brakes,
I got lucky, I always checked my mirror while driving that car, since it would just about stop on a dime,
I grabbed the wheel and leaned back, and he punted me forward like a football, (I was able to get it off the road w/o hitting the car infront of me that started moving)
when I went forward, the belt caught me, and then I bounced back in he seat,
no whiplash, but a badly bruised back (from shoulder blades to below the kidneys,
didn't feel it that day, and the state trooper and the wife insisted I go get ti looked at
didn't really feel it much the next couple of days (I worked a gunshow)
by them middle of the week I was in pain, and ended up back at my Primary care doc,
getting yelled at for not taking the pain meds and not taking the muscle relaxers the ER doc gave me just in case,
ended up w\ 4 weeks of PT (2-3 days a week) and was right as rain afterwards,
you may suffer the same, go be sure to get checked out

In addition to being checked, do not sign anything or talk to his insurance company.
Let your insurance company know and take their advice. My daughter was rear ended in her work truck she had whiplash but no damage to the truck (big bumper hitch) The guy’s insurance company decided it wasn’t enough to payout anything. That meant time off work etc. wasn’t covered.
If he wants the truck totaled, he will probably have to talk to the other carrier.
Not talking to the other carrier in your daughter's incident wouldn't have changed the outcome.

flesheatingvirusI’m thinking it’s going to be new truck time. What a PIA just because one asshole wasn’t paying attention. At least you weren’t injured.

MicropterusWow, that's a hard hit. I'd bet your vehicle it totaled. His definitely is.

Good advice here. It can sometimes take a while for back and neck issues to show up.

bendableHow does it work in New York?
Do the officers that respond just go ahead and give you two free kicks to his crotch, at the scene ? do you have to wait to see what a jury says?
or
Do you just show up at his home one day at an agreed time , then the punting of the balls begins?

mark60It's all new territory for me so I'm not sure when the crotch kicking starts

I dropped it off at the collision shop and they won't have it worked up till at least Monday but he wasn't too encouraging as far as fixing it goes. It kinda sucks because I was planning on a new one but wanted to wait for the new model, I might not have much choice now.
The truck's pretty mangled but I'm pretty ok so it did a good job for me. I'll talk to my agent Monday and see what I do next. My insurance only pays 20 bucks a day for a rental so I'm hoping somebody picks up the rest of the tab but I'm ok and the other guy seemed ok so I guess it's all good. I pulled my dash cam and saw that with cross traffic I couldn't have gotten out of the way if I had seen him coming. I thank God I wasn't on the bike, I'd be pretty mangled if I was. It's funny because on the bike I always watch my mirror until a car is stopped behind me and I flash the brake when someone is coming up if I'm stopped.

ryan81986If the frame isn't mangled I'd guess $8-10k. If the frame took a hit it's probably totaled.

I've run a red light to escape getting rear ended. There are times when saving your life takes precedence over some red light and I was riding a motorcycle.
