Moles
We had problems at my parents house when I was in my teens. We had this American Eskimoe Spitz that decided they were fun/delicious.

She got every last one. The yard looked like someone had plowed it by the end. But the moles were gone.

A few years ago moles were really tearing up the landing strip at our r/c flying field. After trying several things that didn't work, one of the club members drove his nasty old van out onto the field and hooked a hose from his exhaust into one of the active runs and just let the old van run. After doing this at several of the mole runs over a couple of days or so, no more moles.

I was gonna suggest a jack russell terrier, but it can have the unfortunate side effect of making your yard look like it has been shelled by artillery fire. Moles will be gone though.

You could the the rodenator, or similar. Basically an oxy-acetylene setup where you pump the tunnels full of the gas and then ignite it. Collapses tunnels and kills the inhabitants. Can also do some noticeable damage to a yard. It's better in a field type location where you aren't trying to keep it looking pristine.

When I had moles in my yard I contracted with a local guy who called himself the mole man. Moles were all he did, and he did them well. He used spike traps, and checked/moved them weekly. His 'secret sauce' was that he would only sign you up for a minimum of 6 months of service. He knew that you could kill the first round, and pretty soon another group would try to move in, and that cycle could happen a few times before you really knocked the population back enough to matter. So, he wouldn't take the job if you weren't going to give him the time to make a difference. He got my yard cleared up after about a year, and it stayed clear for several years afterward. It wasn't cheap, but he was effective.

I have had some success depressing the population with road flares and or poison but both lack the satisfaction of seeing the dead vermin Big Grin and with time their numbers recover.

I just ordered this trap on your recommendation. The moles seem to be worse than ever this year and it's time to renew the attack! A few good youtube vids on the trap.

They are after bugs and grubs, treat for those and the moles will disappear! It worked for me.

Well... on Brett B's recommendation I looked at this trap and watched a couple Youtube vids on it.

I decided to order one to try...

It arrived yesterday afternoon. I stuck it i the ground.

I awoke to this this morning.

Get a Great Pyrenees. Ours dug them all up and removed them from our large yard. The only problem is all of the holes she left behind.

Get over it!!

Grub killer on the lawn didn't do anything, they are after the earthworms.

Tomcat poison worms didn't do anything and I used lots of them.

Find a straight section of tunnel without roots around it. Flatten about 12" of tunnel and push the trap all the way down in the center of the flattened area, making sure the jaws move freely. I also put a couple pieces of flat mulch under the trigger foot to ensure it springs the trap as soon as the dirt start to move. Then poke some air holes on either side of the trap in the un-flattened section of tunnel. If a mole is nearby the trap will kill it that evening.

Don't waste your money on the plunger style mole traps. I have several of those that do not work. The moles will trip the trap but the spring isn't strong enough to drive the spike deep enough/fast enough to actually kill the mole. Plus they bend very easily making them even more prone to failure since they bind up.

Would this work for gophers also?

Ok, I'll have to give this a try. I'm pretty sure the moles will move it next to my bed for me to step on when I get up but how couldn't I take a chance with this --

"The mole is DEAD!!"
