Not taking anything away from the huge names on that list but McCartney is my favorite among the group. Saw him in concert a couple of years ago. If his instruments could talk about all they have witnesses, that would be incredible. Even my buddy was like "you're in the same building as Paul McCartney and some iconic instruments..."

 
I think Keith Richards has discovered immortality. Someone posted somewhere (here?) a picture of him using that app that can "age" people to see what they would look like 20 or 30 years from now.

As far as people saying there’s no good music being made anymore, I disagree 100%

There IS great music out there, it’s just that the entire music world has changed since the 60’s and 70’s

Vampire Weekend
Avett Brothers
Kurt Vile
Arcade Fire

I think the music scene has gotten so fragmented and changed because of how everything went digital (just like TV is getting) that you may have never heard of any of the above but they are all very talented and making great music.

You are correct. I wouldn't know a one of these people or bands if they ran me over in the street.

As to the topic at hand, there are many who have passed on that really weren't an influence for my taste in music. Hendrix, Joplin, Harrison and Lennon, Elvis, et. al. There are only a few musicians I can think of that were instrumental (no pun intended) in what I listen to, that I physically felt "sorrow". Grew up listening to the Monkees...was sad to hear Davy Jones and Peter Tork passed away. YES was/is a HUUUGE band for me...really upset when bassist Chris Squire passed. As an afterthought, I'd have to add John Enwistle to that list, but he passed away before I had a chance to appreciate his talent...I was listening, but I wasn't hearing. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting. I have a love for "Big Band", so I'm sure it was really sad to see the likes of Glenn Miller, Arte Shaw, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, et. al. pass away in those eras. Well before my time on earth...

I've lived through them all, and listened to none. I stopped listening to popular music about the time of the Everly Brothers. I like songs with actual LYRICS, not just repeated catch phrases; I hate being yelled at (do any singers actually "croon" any more?)--in short, I despise music of the 60s onward. You folks can have it.

Tony Bennett is going to be 91 and is still doing shows. 80 is more like 66 or 70 today than it was even a decade ago.

Everybody has their own taste in music, but the assertion all rock past the Everly Bros. is betreft of melodic singing--that it consists of little more than yelling repetitive phrases, isn't even remotely close to accurate.

It was bliss

I just didn't know to appreciate the Ox more. For me, it was The Who and how it should be. Moonie was gone, but it was still the greatest rnr band ever.

Now Ric Ocasek has left us at age 70.

75, actually, but that just doesn't seem possible, even if the math works out.

All of my Baroque and Classical era legends expired centuries ago. Very sad. You rock guys are lucky.

I attend a lot of concerts, mostly 80's era Punk/New wave (now called Classic Alernative) bands

while not all the band members are present (death, breakups etc) the principles usually are,

at 55, I may be considered an old fart, and a lot of folks my age are there,

however,

there are a lot of young folks there as well, enjoying the music that their parents (or grandparents) enjoyed


was at a Zappa show last night, (Dweezil) and there were many college age guys digging the show, and I saw a pre teen girl there as well,
