Wireless backup camera question

If an aftermarket touchscreen unit is already installed can a wireless backup camera be installed simply using the the in dash unit to connect the receiver device to or would the screen that comes with the backup camera still have to be used? Wouldn't the camera input and rca connections that are on the in dash suffice for this?

It would be dependent upon the head unit's video capability and video in connections.

What brand and model touchscreen?

Never heard of a “wireless” backup camera. Aftermarket head units offer backup cams but the only ones I know of are wired.

Sorry, No idea about the original question...

But here is the one I bought the wife for Christmas. You have to power the screen, can be just a lighter plug or hard wired. The camera mounts to the license plate holder screw and is powered by the backup lights. When your backup lights come on the camera and display are activated. The video and control signal from the camera to the screen is what is "wireless". I haven't installed it yet.

I just just bought the factory camera and wiring harness for my Mazda and installed it myself. It plugged right into the back of the infotainment screen. Had to take some of the dash and interior trim out to route the harness to the rear.

This RCA input enables you to connect a rear-view camera to display the area behind your vehicle. This increased visibility encourages and facilitates safer driving. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (orange wire of the harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.1 seconds."

Based on this, I'd say that you would need a wired backup camera for this model.

Yeah, I’m thinking it’ll have to be along those lines, too. I was just sort of wondering if an alternative to stringing wires was viable. And wireless probably wouldn’t really be any less involved installing, anyway.
