Not a problem with my Phillips (CRT) TV--I never turn it off, it runs 24/7. I sleep with it running (and the lights on), in my lounge chair. I figure that no one can tell when I'm home or awake if the TV is always on.

I thought "Visio" was a model made by Sony. Oops. It's a Visio.

I had a tv a while back that was possessed in the same way. Someone told me to take the batteries out of the remote and hold the remote's power button down for ten seconds with no batteries in it. It never turned itself on again after doing that.

I have a Samsung that would turn back on right after I pressed the power button on the TV. If I turned it off from the remote, it would stay off.

Somewhere there is a thread with a neighbor saying my TV keeps turning off by itself.

I have a 12 YO Sharp that has done this from day one. Still scares the hell out of me. Its in a closed armoire in my bedroom and it gets rather warm inside when its on for a couple weeks. I turned up the volume so that I can hear it when it happens.

I bought a top of the line Vizio a year and a half ago. It had a fabulous picture.

After a year, I would turn it on and the volume would go done to zero. If I tried to turn it up, the tv would fight me trying to turn it down.
After warmup it would be ok. Then the picture started to change, less brightness, sharpness and contrast. Then I started getting a dark spot in the upper right side. Then it extended down to the center right and clear over to the right side.
Now, I get a flash of brightness on the left side.
The tv is now about a year and a half. Sometimes the menu comes up and goes to something in the tvs menu, not the cable menu.

No more Vizio tvs for me.

Maybe your neighbor has a similar TV (and remote) and is messing with your head?

I've heard that happens... Wink

Does a neighbor have a similar TV? Had a woman who swore she was being stalked, harassed etc by her ex.

Turned out both she and her next door apt neighbor had the same TV....

It seems to be fixed by disabling the "CEC" function but I've been busy with other stuff and have only turned it on once since I did that.

I have a vizio on the wall in my office and it does the same thing. It drives me nuts. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll turn off CEc and see if it cures the problem.

CEC?

Reminder to self: Start a rant thread about those who use TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms) without defining them. Or if not defined, at least a link to a definition.
