ZSMICHAELOysters
I really enjoy oysters but have stayed away from raw oysters due to Vibrio. Would putting raw oysters in the microwave prevent Vibrio but not kill the taste. The opening of the Bonnet Carre spillway wiped out the crop but they are coming back. Prices have really gone up.

JohnVMy wife got very very sick eating raw oysters that ended up with 4 days in a hospital and still them having no idea what she had....once on the right antibiotic it fixed her but it was a month of hell. I'd eat them if they were baked but my raw oyster days are over!

redleg2/9How, in the love of God, would you know about the Bonnet Carre and possibly consider putting oysters in a microwave?

tatortoddGrill 'em. I prefer Oysters Baton Rouge or Oysters New Orleans over raw. Parrain's in Baton Rouge has the best grilled oysters I have ever eaten.
Here is a recipe for Oysters New Orleans from a restaurant called Dragos

rat2306Last I saw them, they were $20 a pint when they could be found. I preferred mine fried real good, along with shrimp and scallops. Got an undercooked one once, while on travel for the job. That was a horrible night, and then the flight home in the morning...

That has been my continual puzzlement and imaging how edible food was discovered.
“Okay, Og, take a bite of that plant.”
“Oops, Og died. This time, let’s boil some in water and some put over the fire directly. Next two volunteers please.”
I enjoyed going to Bodega Bay where there’s an oyster shack. They would put the oysters over an outside grill for less than 30 seconds. Mmmm….

jhe888Microwaving them would make them cooked oysters, and I don't think in an appetizing way.
Cook them if you must, but cook them properly. I like a fried oyster or a grilled oyster, but not as much as a raw one.
I still eat them raw. Get them somewhere reliable. Stay away from grocery store ones. Who knows how old they are.

6gunsI'm with J. I really enjoy raw oysters, but don't have them all that often. I also like them cooked. My mother used to make a great oyster casserole, especially at Christmas that was delicious.

GustoferI dearly miss fresh oysters. Half shell, grill/smoker, garlic butter, chives, fresh parm, and a drop of Tabasco. Ohhhhh my!
We've got a fella who comes through town a couple times a month with fresh/frozen fish from Sitka. I never thought to ask him if he could get some fresh oysters. Next time I see him I will.

Rey HRHI remember we used to buy oysters by the box from a person who lived near the oyster farm. We would put them in the oven to cook.
