I am doing this right now with my old 1998 GMC K1500. I am lucky to have a good tire shop in town that has a good selection of used tires on hand and will be getting four used tires.

If only replacing two tires, you dont just replace the rear tires. You change the most worn tires. Wherever they happen to be on the car, either front or rear. Then you put the two best used tires up front, and the new tires in the back.

New tires on rear vs front. I’m sorry but I want more traction on the front. I want traction to brake and turn. It’s oversteer vs understeer. Like they say, oversteer is scary for the passenger but understeer is scary for the driver. I can deal with oversteer. Hell, learned how to deal with it when I was 10 years old driving my dads truck in the hay field.

Here's the other thing I really am failing to understand, it is not as if tires go bald overnight. I mean you see them everytime you walk to and get in your car. They're THE easiest thing to check the lifespan on, on a car.

As several have stated - you want the newest tires in the back, regardless of drive train. You want to keep the car straight and on the road. Unless you drive 10mph and under on loose material going up and down big hills 24/7 with a FWD, you want the new ones on the back.

I’m with you. If you study the whole front vs rear best tire debate, you find that it’s recommended for the ‘average driver’ or ‘most drivers’ to put the best tires on the rear. I have driven cars where the best tires have been on the rear on a front-wheel drive car and the front tires have broken loose repeatedly in the rain or a heavy downpour, causing the car to understeer.

For me, I keep the best tires on the front because I’m comfortable driving a car that is more likely to oversteer than understeer.

Definitely research the used market. I wanted a pair of rims for dedicated snow tires, I already own the snow tires.

Found a pair of steel rims with snow tires already mounted. I was expecting to pay $500 for a set of rims. Got the rims and tires for $500. I’m set for tires for awhile, I now have 2 sets of snow tires, and a set of all season redials.

It’s a buyers market for used tires. People don’t want to give them away, but they will sell them pretty cheap.

Gregg doesn't have pay pal, I inquired. Maybe someone would be willing to collect donations and we could order a set off tire rack and have them delivered. He would then just need to pay mount balance and valve stems etc.

If he could set this up with a tire / mechanic so he knows what his install price is for four tires, I am sure we could come up with a way to get four tires off tire rack where they need to be.

I was going to give you a link to some decent quality cheap tires in that size. I know if you go to a local tire shop, most of the time their quotes are outrageous. I buy my own tires and then have a local shop mount and balance for $12/tire.

Clubleaf, if you send me your mailing address I will purchase 2 of these tires from Amazon and just have them sent directly to you. Since they are prime qualified they will be at your door likely by Tuesday of next week and then you just have to get them installed. If you are paying a tire shop to mount/balance tires I would rather you install new tires that will last a while vs. used which may need replaced again soon.

I always use the photos you post for Moment of Zen on my work/home computers. I look at them every day, and I would be happy to forward some good will. My email address is in my profile.

I'm sure other members here would be glad to pitch in for the other 2. I'd also be happy to donate some money for tires if that's easiest.
