26 years w/o a single bite of chili cheese fries .
its been tough,

It all started shortly after the 1994 Northridge earth quake,

I started working in a hunting /fishing goods store in Reseda ,Ca ,
on VanOwen street.

The bar across the street , Webers , offered a wonderful pile of very good french fries under some much better than average beef and bean chili

topped with freshly grated and melted cheese.

I wasn't long before I was getting it twice a week
then three times a week .

and on came the pounds. I was 240 when I started there, not horrible for a guy 6 ft. 4 in.

I wanted to blame it all kinds of stuff , but truth be told , I was weak and made bad decesions.

Weber's is closed now , I wish I never would have found it.

Similar, but somewhat off topic (if that's possible).

Due to Sudden Onset Lactose Intolerance I'm unable to eat even a spoonful of ice cream, I have to severely limit my intake of chocolate and have cut my cheese ration drastically.

Even a slice of pizza with "extra cheese" will have me running for the Porcelain Throne.

As a result, I'm slowly losing weight which is a Good Thing. Otherwise, it just sucks.

In Oct of 1996 I quit smoking. The first w-end quit was the Colt collectors annual meeting held in Atlanta that year. I was doing better than expected until the drive home to Louisville and I-65 turned into a parking lot. Nerves were frazzeled but I made it and am smoke free today. Doctors say my lungs are as clear as a non-smoker.

Long Island ice tea for me......over 25 years ago I mixed a brew of Long Island ice tea in a Coleman water cooler and took it out with me on a co workers pontoon for a day of fun on Prior Lake. I don’t recall who escorted me back to my house, how my swim shorts got put on with the strings on my back, but I do remember kneeling to the porcelain God “Ralph”!! To this day I can’t consume a Long Island ice tee.

I need my maple walnut ice cream fix from time to time.

I find that taking a Lactaid tablet (or generic equivalent) before indulging in the ice cream, is a big help.

I was diagnosed with brain cancer in my early 20's. After many rounds of chemotherapy, I was declared cured, and I tried to resume normal life. Prior to being treated for cancer, I was a Univ student, and I was on the Univ's Track and X-Country teams. So, I was used to eating like I was running about 25 miles a day, so, consuming at least about 8000 calories a day. POst the cancer therapy, I continued toeat like I was still running seriously, without doing any exercise whatsoever. I at what I saw. Ate without any limits. And I gained weight, a lot of weight. I topped out at 312lbs!!!!! And I am only about 5'8" tall!!!!
My coaches and other responsible adults did a sort of intervention on me, and I began to get exercise, and I cut down in eating like a perpetually hungry pig. Slowly, as my health improved, I lost most of the weight, and came down to 185lbs.
Since then, I have had a few pizzas, but, no hot dogs, no chili-cheese fries etc. The only hot dogs I eat nowadays are the hippie ones, made of tofu!!!! SmileSmile They taste pretty goodSmileSmile

If you think you can, YOU WILL!!!!!

No, but I ate at Brent's Deli in Northridge a couple of times when I was in the area back in the 80s. Old school deli with an excellent cheeseburger and very good pastrami from what I can remember.

This seems to be a usage of the word "chip" that I am not familiar with. Could someone provide an explanation, please?

In AA, you get "chips" for periods of sobriety, like 30 days, 6 months, then years.... sorta of like the challenge coin concept for periods of accomplishment or abstinence.

Mine is Big Macs, which I love against all logic. I haven't had one since my heart attack in 2014.

I also gave multiple bottles per day of Mountain Dew, figuring I didn't need the massive amount of caffeine and sugar.

I got a buddy that won't give up the Pepsi for any reason you give him.

Three cans day some times four

When he eventually retires, he's going to blow up like a balloon

I quit smoking in 99 when I left active duty right around the end of June...so I guess I’m 20 years clean!
