The recent postings concerning Jordan Peterson brought me to find her on YouTube. She's a sane, thinking woman. The first of her articles I read, she, being a lesbian, found no fault in Christians believing that homosexuality is a sin. She said it wasn't bigotry, its principle. Have a listen to a beacon of sanity in the current wave of madness in our world.

Been a long-time fan of Paglia. Even when I don't agree with her, I enjoy hearing the way she speaks! She has such a wide range of knowledge and a kind of verbal fluidity I've never quite seen matched. She's said herself that she gets rhetorical inspiration from talk radio . She's the arch enemy of Gloria Steinem type feminists, arguing that if women really want to be treated equally and claim to be against the "patriarchy" (an idea she also calls BS on), it's totally hypocritical to demand special treatment and protection from the government. _________________________ Their system of ethics, which regards treachery and violence as virtues rather than vices, has produced a code of honour so strange and inconsistent, that it is incomprehensible to a logical mind. -Winston Churchill, writing of the Pashtun

Used to read her articles. Seen a couple interviews with her. Yes, she's a lefty no doubt. And on a great many things I disagree with her. But she's not one of the screechy crazy lefties like we see regularly. She can be somewhat rational, as opposed to 99% of the Progs one runs across these days. _______________________ “The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. She's a lefty, but a principled leftie, and she recognizes principle on the right as well and respects it. You can always discuss or argue with people of principles, because they are both rational and have a philosophical underpinning for their position. At times, you may either change their mind, change your own mind, or find enough common ground for a decent public policy, because you are working from principle and fact, rather than from desire and emotional investment. Absolutely! That's the video that led me to find Paglia's videos. Much appreciated.

Be it by chance or by some compelling interest, it struck me (but not amazed), at how many Kantian connecting threads, and/or Nietzschean invisible threads, there were between a level 3 (or 4?) Anthropology class as an undergraduate in college and both Public and Private International Law classes in law school. The bare bottom principles are all there. In 30,000 years we have done a not-too-shabby job of defining them. Perfecting techniques. What 15th, 16th and 17th century thinkers referred as Natural Law. Of course, we have always managed to fuck things up every once in a while. But it's all part of the editing process. ETA: IIRC, the Anthropology class was titled---Shit through the Ages:The Paradigm from Neanderthals through Modern Man. *************************** Knowing more by accident than on purpose.

I don’t know that the video so much features Camille Paglia as it does Jordon Peterson. If you do nothing else though, listen to the first 4 minutes or so of the conversation. Jordan Peterson talks about the inherent escalation of conflict pathway for men, and says that belligerent women can cross clear boundaries that men understand may well produce a violent response. A man confronted in such a manner by a woman with no sense of the limits of conflict escalation is essentially disarmed because the clearly understood progression of conflict that men have been bound by for millennia cannot be applied. Women like the one he speaks of who freely throw around “Nazi,” take advantage of their sex. Brilliant. _______________________________________________________ despite them

In some ways she reminds me of the late Nat Hentoff. We was a writer/critic and editor. I almost never agreed with his positions but he always acknowledged that the other side had a right to theirs. Check out his book Free Speech For Me But Not For Thee. Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies. Gene Hill

When he was talking about that, I was thinking that could be applied to gun control argument as well. When citizens can't defend themselves, the other side will recognize that and know there is nothing the law abiding citizen can do to stop them. That conflict escalation has been denied to one side but not the other. ------------------------------ I'm a right wing, anti-illegal, pro-life, gun owning, straight, white, college educated, politically informed, conservative, Christian male. Maybe so, but after a minute and half of him rambling on and on, even by his own admission. I could not take it anymore. She was trying to get a word in multiple times and he just kept running his mouth. The lefty females I know that might of benefited from anything she had to say would of given up by the time he let here say anything. In that video at least he is doing no good trying to advance a reasonable perspective on the subject, imho. "Practice like you want to play in the game"
