I'm certainly no expert, just one of many military history buffs who enjoy this forum, but...If I'm not mistaken, many soldiers--and officers, in the Wehrmacht were not members of the National Socialists Party. Unfortunately, it would be an understatement to say that the Wehrmacht cooperated with the SS in its murder of Jews, Poles, and millions of others.

It is a fool's errand to judge people of the past by today's morality. Doing such doesn't compute.

That episode is 4 years old, so she knew her family history long before attacking President Trump. The article makes it seem like she just found out. Anyway, I could care less about her but if she was somehow devastated about the news back in 2013 when she found out, then it's pretty funny. I think she probably had some idea already. I mean, it really wasn't that far back in her family's history. It's her grandfather. Knowing he was from Germany and was of fighting age, she'd have to suspect that there was a good chance he served in the German military or served the German government in some way during those times.

Not correct. It would be accurate to say that all official members of the SS were Nazis. But not all soldiers fighting in Waffen-SS units were SS members or Nazis. Many weren't even German.
In the early stages of the war, the Waffen-SS units were made up exclusively of racially-acceptable, die-hard SS members from Germany. But as the war progressed, Waffen-SS units were supplemented with other men, including non-SS soldiers and non-Aryan/Germanic soldiers who were not even eligible for SS membership or Nazi Party membership. But as the war progressed, the Waffen-SS eventually disregarded ethnic considerations altogether, and by the end of the war had formed fighting units that included Bosnians, Albanians, Croatians, Russians, Ukrainians, Cossacks, Latvians, Estonians, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Italians, Belgians, French, Turks, Indians, Romanians, Spaniards, and a whole host of other non-Germanic nationalities and ethnic groups.
There were eventually a total of around half a million non-Germans fighting in the Waffen-SS. Not all of these foreign Waffen-SS soldiers agreed with the Nazis. Many of these were simply anti-Communists who saw the Germans as a slightly better alternative than the Soviets (especially those minorities that had suffered under the Bolsheviks in the Soviet Union and who viewed the Germans as their liberators). Some joined up just to have a job, a bed, and a full belly. Others were conscripts, with little choice.
