New dodge trucks and cab offerings
The ex farmers were talking about Selby's new dodge truck. (two tables over)

they were talking about how he got the new larger crew cab,
they said that Dodge is offering two sizes in their crew cabs (four door) truck cabs, now.

So I searched for 30 minutes on the WWW. and have found nothing about this "two cab sizes " business.

Are they nuts ? or is this a real thing ?

they made it sound like it had a foot or so behind the rear set of seats.

almost like a crew cab w/ a super cab extension.

Ram offers a longer "mega cab" on some 2500 and 3500 trims.

The Mega Cab is a four-door crew cab available only on Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 trucks that goes beyond what a crew cab offers by extending the cab length 11.1 inches.

In the 1500 there is a quad cab (smaller back doors less room) and a crew cab (large back doors and full leg room). In the the 2500 and 3500 there is the Mega cab which is larger than the crew with a noticeable extension behind the back doors. You won't find this option if only looking at the half ton (1500) trucks.

Yep, the mega cab has been around since model year 2006. For the first 3, maybe 4 model years it was available as a half ton and three quarter ton. then transitioned to three quarter ton only. Funny though, those first three or four years...the half ton mega cab was the same truck as the three quarter ton mega cab. I was looking real hard at getting a used mega cab back in 2018. I was eyeing the 06 - 08 half ton offering.

Looks like Ford is the only full-size 1/2 ton that still offers an extended cab (rearward opening doors). As GM/Dodge/Toyota are all 2-size crew cabs.

Before they were done with the morning coffee, one fella said that Selby had to spend a grand on his new truck,. Seems he got the optional power rear window and when he was parking his 5th wheel , double slide out camper , he cut it too hard, one way , popping out the back glass. Selby's old truck was a long bed.

The Nissan Titan offers a king cab which has the rearward opening doors. Just a data point.

He needs a Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch if he has a short bed. That’s designed and sold so he won’t tear up his truck.

I have the mega cab. Rear seats recline which is great on a long trip. Also the rear seats fold down to flat, excellent for putting tools or a dog in the vehicle.

Completely forgot the Titan existed. Rarely see them on the road around here.

I want a two-door mega-cab that runs truck bed all the way to rear double doors.

My neighbor has two relatively new 4-door dodge ram 1500's parked in his driveway. One has short rear doors and the other has longer rear doors. I didn't know they made them both ways if I hadn't seen them parked next to each other.

The 1500 quad cab with the smaller doors is freaking tiny back there. Saw a 7 year old in a booster seat that couldn’t sit behind her father because there wasn’t enough legroom. He had to drive, or they had to move the booster seat behind mom when she was driving and dad was in the passenger seat.

Yep, the only difference was the overload springs on the 3500 that where on top of the rear axle. I have a 2014 Mega 6.7 and love it. Hray

So does the sliding of the hitch allow him to keep it over the axle, while on the road , and then
slide it rearward to allow tighter cornering while backing ?

do you have to un hook the trailer prior to sliding the hitch receiver?

I believe the sliding hitch is for those towing campers which need more room up front, compared to a horse trailer, etc. You would leave the sliding hitch in the rear position any time the large trailer is used.
