If you want a professional crimp, buy a ratching crimper.
Seems like everybody and their brother has one with their companies name on it today.

Pick the company and or the color scheme you want, you can find several in the $20 range.

If you do a lot of work with various terminals, I recommend the S&G Tool Aid. It was well worth the price.

I do auto wire (restorations, wiring harness) and other electronics.

I just ordered some ratcheting crimping pliers for crimping coax connectors for ham radio coax. Some connectors you solder 2 piece PL259 connectors, some you crimp on 3 part connectors.

I think I had both . Not much difference except the price . I think the Klein had more comfortable grips if that's an issue .

I'd get the Klein Tools cutter/crimper and their stripper too.
The crimping pliers are made in USA, the strippers are Taiwan (Not CCP).
If you doing something other than standard ring and spade terminal then the more specialized tools are worth it as they make a nicer job and specific to the brand and type terminal.

Several good suggestions already, but I would ask what you’ll be working on. There are a lot of different applications, wire sizes, and of course solid and stranded wire. What are you going to be doing with them?

I agree, my go to tool for stripping.

I agree with the recommendations for the ratcheting crimpers. They provide a much stronger crimp than the pliers style.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a high quality assortment of varied connectors with good heat shrinkable insulation? There seem to be way too many which use some sort of brittle plastic that often splits when crimped.

Just DIY stuff, no HD pro work. Trailer wiring, speaker wires, the occasional outlet or light switch. I'm just tired of the horrible strippers/crimpers sold by the likes of the Walton empires.

As a former avionics tech and current ham, I have several ratcheting crimp tools for the various types of connectors I run across.

I have a few tools for generic crimps, one for doing solderless BNC that will do the center pin and the shell.

Depending on what gauge you’re crimping and what type of connector you’re hooking up you will probably spend between $25 and $55 for a good tool.

Mouser, Aircraft Spruce, and some specialty shops such as West Mountain Radio can probably solve most of your needs

Do I really need a crimper for stranded and another for solid wires? Or is there one that will do both?
