Two quick responses.
First, many (most?) people come to America for a better life. But the "better life" available in America is due to American standards and principles. If you want a better life, then adopt the better standards. Seems to me too many bring hot dogs to the party, but expect to eat prime rib. IE, they want a defacto free ticket.
Second, the public ed mantra in CA is "social justice - equality - diversity". As applied, it means all societal values and cultures in the world are equal to or superior to American values. Everyone should be equal even if they can't/won't produce).
